Either the glock or the springfield if it is to be a concealed carry weapon. Remember the glock safety, isn't so much a safety as it is "don't pull the ****in trigger", the springfield isn't much better, but it at least has the grip safety as well. Neither to my knowledge have a manual safety.

I personally would buy the springfield, I think it is a better buy for the money, last I checked they were significantly cheaper than glock. If they are comparably priced, you cannot go wrong with either.

Hi Sqhertz.

Glock 26 or Springfield XD.

I prefer Glock because there is a ton of aftermarket parts and accessories available for it. Springfield makes you send your pistol in, even if you have an end user serviceable item. That is just Springfield's policy.

Truthfully, I prefer the way the XD series points in my hand compared to a Glock. Glocks have a Euro angle and it will take some getting used to if you have trained with 1911s in the past. My only saving grace is that I have owned Glocks since 1993, so I am kind of used to how they point now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

out of the 3 which one would u go with
S&W M&P compact 9mm

Glock 26 9mm

Springfield XD sub compact 9mm
The XD feels better to me. Call a shooting range and see if they have the Glock and XD available to shoot. The one around here does. Forget about the S&W.

Hi Sqhertz.
well i can get a used glock 26 for 450 or the new S&W M&P for 440 or a springfield xd new for 466 the whole package from springfield, and how big of a concern is the saftey issue just dont pull the trigger and you should be good or dont have one in the chamber if you are that worried about it

and why do you say forget the S&W

In regard to the safety issue. I grew up around firearms, I have been shooting since I was 7, handguns since I was 10. When it comes to the safety, I just prefer redundancy. A lot of people I have met, shot with, or taken shooting, treat a gun as a toy, they don't give the firearm the respect it is due.

I have to once again vote my personal preference. Get a springfield 1911. They are relatively inexpensive new, and the 1911 is easily the best handgun ever produced. There is a reason many law enforcement agencies have gone back to the 1911. It's rugged, reliable and a beast of a weapon. In all my years shooting I have never found a handgun that is more natural or as fun to shoot. And even though most of them are 7+1, if you need more than 8 shots, you either need to learn how to shoot, or you need to save the last one for yourself, because what you are shooting is unholy and will not die. If you can get a chance to take a 1911 out to the range and shoot it, my bet is you fall in love and pick one up.

well to me the 1911 seems like a bigger gun and not so compact

glock 26:

LENGTH

160 mm / 6.29 in.

HEIGHT

106 mm / 4.17 in

WIDTH

30 mm / 1.18 in.

WEIGHT

560 g / 19.75 oz.

LOADED (~)

740 g / 26.10 oz.

springfield 1911A1|GI Micro Compact:

height 5"

length 6.5"

weight empty: 33oz

It's a tad bigger, that is the compact carry version of the 1911.

My personal carry weapon is the glock 29. Which IIRC is the same size as the 26. It is a very small gun, I have small hands and they still hang over. Where do you plan to carry it? If you plan to carry it anywhere it will be exposed to sweat or body oils, get the glock or the springfied, as they are both polymer and resistant to corrosion. Your best bet is to go to the gun shop and hold them both. Ideally you would find a range that has both as rental guns and shoot both of them to see which is the most comfortable for you. 9mm does not have a hefty recoil, but the glock sub compacts are really small, and anything can jump out of your hand if you cannot get a good grip on it.

yea well i have big hands since i am 6'2 and size 13feet so not a lil guy at all so i am wanthing something i can hold fairly decent, and i dont plan to carry it all the time just certain times when i go out of town or when ever i feel the need to carry it and prob will have a holster to seal it in either on my pants line on the inside or under my arm or somewhere like that.

Also wont be able to legally carry it until i am 21 i am only 19 right now but i am going to go ahead and buy one and lots of ammo before i maybe cant if obama try to take guns like that way

yea i will shoot it alot and have 2 years to shoot it

if you are 18 or older can you legally carry a handgun locked in a case under your seat or something in your car loaded or unloaded or does it not matter

Whatever you buy, put as many rounds through it as you can. I shoot a box a week in my glock 29. For a CCW you better know the gun like your life depends on it, because it does.

while we're on the topic, whenever i go to get my gun and ccw , i know my fiance will want one too. im not sure how well she will be able to handle bigger calibers , but she was comfortable with the 9mm she shot before.

what is something i should have her look into? maybe the smaller kel tecs? walther pps?
