The XD feels better to me. Call a shooting range and see if they have the Glock and XD available to shoot. The one around here does. Forget about the S&W.out of the 3 which one would u go with
S&W M&P compact 9mm
Glock 26 9mm
Springfield XD sub compact 9mm
well i can get a used glock 26 for 450 or the new S&W M&P for 440 or a springfield xd new for 466 the whole package from springfield, and how big of a concern is the saftey issue just dont pull the trigger and you should be good or dont have one in the chamber if you are that worried about itEither the glock or the springfield if it is to be a concealed carry weapon. Remember the glock safety, isn't so much a safety as it is "don't pull the ****in trigger", the springfield isn't much better, but it at least has the grip safety as well. Neither to my knowledge have a manual safety. I personally would buy the springfield, I think it is a better buy for the money, last I checked they were significantly cheaper than glock. If they are comparably priced, you cannot go wrong with either.
Hi Sqhertz.
what do you mean they make u send it inGlock 26 or Springfield XD.
I prefer Glock because there is a ton of aftermarket parts and accessories available for it. Springfield makes you send your pistol in, even if you have an end user serviceable item. That is just Springfield's policy.
Truthfully, I prefer the way the XD series points in my hand compared to a Glock. Glocks have a Euro angle and it will take some getting used to if you have trained with 1911s in the past. My only saving grace is that I have owned Glocks since 1993, so I am kind of used to how they point now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
and why do you say forget the S&WThe XD feels better to me. Call a shooting range and see if they have the Glock and XD available to shoot. The one around here does. Forget about the S&W.
In regard to the safety issue. I grew up around firearms, I have been shooting since I was 7, handguns since I was 10. When it comes to the safety, I just prefer redundancy. A lot of people I have met, shot with, or taken shooting, treat a gun as a toy, they don't give the firearm the respect it is due.
I have to once again vote my personal preference. Get a springfield 1911. They are relatively inexpensive new, and the 1911 is easily the best handgun ever produced. There is a reason many law enforcement agencies have gone back to the 1911. It's rugged, reliable and a beast of a weapon. In all my years shooting I have never found a handgun that is more natural or as fun to shoot. And even though most of them are 7+1, if you need more than 8 shots, you either need to learn how to shoot, or you need to save the last one for yourself, because what you are shooting is unholy and will not die. If you can get a chance to take a 1911 out to the range and shoot it, my bet is you fall in love and pick one up.
Whatever you buy, put as many rounds through it as you can. I shoot a box a week in my glock 29. For a CCW you better know the gun like your life depends on it, because it does.
