9mm or .40

9mm vs .40

I see no reason to carry more than a 9mm....if you need more knock down power than that, then you are screwing with the wrong people.
for daily shooting, I believe(but do not quote) the 9mm ammo is cheaper??

check what the 9mm loaded vs .40 loaded weight difference is, IMO lighter the better

also, hold them both and see what fits YOUR hand better.
well the springfield xd 9mm and .40 are the same guns as far as dimensions and so are the glocks and the S&W M&P compact, i wouldnt mind a .45 but its alot more to shoot as far as cost, and the recoil is much more than the others and less rounds and 45 is alot of power and prob wont need that much.

9mm, less gun failures than a .40, I have owned both and sold both off for a conventional knock a hole in your mother fukn a$$ kinda gun aka .357 for home defense "If Needed"...
But a daily concealed 9mm by far for your purposes....

yea like stated 40 and 9 are same size for concealing wise, i would like a .45 but **** thats alot of power haha i mean at worst 2 or 3 people if i ever get in a situation like that i think the 9 with 16 shots will put them down may not kill them unless i hit them in a good spot but would put all of them down, and the 40 will only have 12 shots so thats still 4 shots a piece if 3 of them and that should put them all down as well. but i figure the 9mm will do what i need it for, how many people who actually have a ccw and have had to use your weapon on someone or even pull it on someone before

I've never had to and more than likely I never will. Criminals usually pick on the small and weak.

yea thats why i figure a 9mm will suit me best since i dont live in a bad town like detriot or something where i have to worry bout getting shot u know lol

what do most cops carry the .45 and how many rounds do they carry in the 45's

also for ammo for when carrying and will do the most damage which should i use

115 grain full metal jacket

124 grain jacketed hollow point

147 grain jacketed hollow point

115 grain jacketed hollow point

115 grain stanard hollow point

which one for protection and which one for target shooting

First off, most generally use full metal jackets for target practice and carry full metal jackets for self defense. I always recommend that someone shoot at least 200 to 300 rounds of their carry ammunition before carrying with it. Yes it is expensive, but you will know if your gun has any issues with jacketed hollow points and you will have a general idea as to if your carry ammunition has a different point of impact over your target ammunition. ETA: A self-defense situation is NOT the time to find out that your gun will not reliably feed your jacketed hollow points!

On a positive note, most Glocks and Springfield XDs will NOT encounter problems with jacketed hollow points. OTOH, many 1911s have issues with hollow points that have large openings hanging on the feed ramps. My 1911s have not encountered any problems, but I have seen many that have, including a Les Baer 1911 which is one of the most expensive that money can buy!

ETA2: As for what to carry, it depends. A lighter grained bullet loaded to higher velocity (+p or +p+) will generally penetrate a little less but expand more. A heavier grain bullet loaded to standard chamber pressure will also expand and penetrate a little deeper.

Use Cor-Bon DPX rounds for carry, and whatever is cheap and functions well in the gun for practice.

yea i plan to put alot of rounds through the gun i will use for my defense ammo, so the springfield xd is the model i am gonna go with the 9mm i am pretty sure it will be a good gun

I meant to say carry jacketed hollow points for self-defense. Serious brain fart there.
