99 Ranger rear speakers plugs?

i have 99 ranger base model regular cab.

finally got to replacing its head unit with decent one, as it was just radio.

pulled it out today. it appears that plug has leads for front and rear drivers. now, there are 2 openings behind the seats, with grills, for speakers. but i could not find actual plugs for speakers to be connected.

any ideas where they might be hiding? i have set of drivers i could plug in any time, should i find those plugs. probably tied to some harness somewhere.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

thank you.

There is a plug tied up out of the way to the wiring harness, reach up through the speaker hole and it should be fairly close, see if you can manipulate it down low enough to access your plug.

thank you.

yes, there's harness running next to the seatbelt behind driver seat. i had my hand on it, but i could not find anything, but i looked more from the speaker hole down, not much up. guess, i'll just take that panel off, it is fairly easy.

now, one more question. i'll find that plug, or run splice from door speakers, one way or the other. but there's really nothing to attach speaker to. just a sizable hole. no brackets, nothing. plastic wall cover with grill and then just back wall, metal.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif any recommendations?

appreciate input.

When your talking about a sizeable hole are you referring to the cut out for the factory 6 by 8s? If so, if your replacing with more 6x8s, just set the speaker in the whole and mark through the screw holes on speaker with a marker, scribe, etc. Then just take and drill a hole a little smaller than the screws your using to attach the speaker with. If your not using 6x8s I would take and make a baffle out of mdf that will fit in the whole, and just cut out the shape you need in the mdf to accept the speaker. Attach the mdf to the metal, and then attach speaker to mdf.

there's no armature to attach speaker to. it's a rectangular hole in the plastic panel with 4 holes for grill. flimsy at the best.

inside the hole - just empty space and the back side of the cabine.

so, really, there's nothing to attach drivers to. drilling holes through the wall is out of question. and it's vertical wall.

normally, like in my civic, they did not put rear speakers in, but there's metal frame to install it in - and attach to. here - nothing. cheap plastic and that's about it.

Going to have to make something out of 1/2" MDF to mount the speaker on! Should only take you an hour or two, granted you have the tools and know-how!

in my old Ranger (2001 Edge) the rear speakers were kind of strange...the speaker screwed to the grill from the back and the grill was mounted to the rear plastic with other screws. I don't know if this is the same though. When you take the grill off flip it over to look for the screws, and try to mount it that way. It was a shitty way for Ford to assemble the rear fill but it worked.

now, we are sharing same body style. that makes sense. i am not quite sure about rattles to come from the plastic, but i normally use wall insulation to quench those.

basically, i need good 6x8 with rectangular chassis to overlap the hole and mate with the grill screw holes.

gotcha. should i decide to make mdf armature, i'd rather make 2 subs instead. but it is loud enough as is for me. front speakers turned out to be fair for the purpose. that pioneer head unit drives them just fine.

thanks to everyone who cared to help - and happy holidays.

it turned out to be super simple.

when i took speaker grill off, i found that on the back of it there are 4 mounting holes for a standard speaker mount. basically, speaker mounts to the grill, grill goes back into its place, boom-shakalaka, done.

nice thing is - there's a ton of depth between grill and back wall. i can see some large size magnets fitting there just fine, he-he.

will be tomorrow's project. run wiring, buy speakers, install, pack around speaker with wall insulation, enjoy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
