to get the radio out all you have to do is get a metal coat hanger cut 2 5 inch pieces out of it and bend them in a "U", shove them in the little holes on the side of the radio, pull out while pulling to the sides. no need to take the center console out.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

or go 2 walmart or autozone and buy a set of ford radio removal keys for less than $5
x2

I bought a set to replace the OEM stereo in one of my work's trucks (bossman made a deal with me that he'd buy an in-dash cd player if I would install it)

Kept 'em since I had spent the $3.99 or w/e they cost and they've proven pretty durn handy helping out friends that own Fords and whatnot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the back seats do come out

I had a 96 that I owned for 4 years..... I know them very well.

On the back seat, there are indeed 2 pressure locks - they're white so if you lift up the front of the seat a tiny bit you can see where they are - they are located in the center of each seat right under the lip of the cushion. Press in on each one with a screwdriver or something and it pops right out. That's the bottom cushion, the back of the seats must be unbolted - there are (IIRC) 3 bolts that are clearly visible once you remove the bottom of the seat. For a convertible, the seat will pop right out if you lift up and back, for a coupe, fold the seats down and unbolt the lip of the back decklid, then unbolt the top of the seat - it should come right out then. If you still run into problems pm me. Btw, the guy who said you need a coat hanger to get the radio out was semi-correct. A hanger will do it, but the actual tool to do it is much more efficient, and is pretty cheap to boot. I've used that particular tool on about 5 different fords, they all have the same mechanism.

yes you could go to the store and buy those tools to get the radio out, but if you need to get the radio out and dont have time to go to the store them the hangers will do. I used them to take the radio out of my friends mustang and they worked fine. I shoved them in the holes until I felt them lock into place and pulled out worked like a charm.

Mustang interiors ****!!! Horrible! Fit is very poor! If it didn't go fast, sound good, and look good on the outside...I wouldn't have one. Installer broke a piece on the hold used to pull door shut while installing type-r components. They shouldn't have broke the plastic clip, but that stuff is junk to start with.

Had I to do it over, welding rods work extremely well! And will save you about $8!
