unbalanced signal to an amp... can i harm it?

hey guys i have an Audiocontrol overdrive that rigth now is sending balanced signal to my amp.......

I have the temptation to buy an epicenter, and in the overdrive manual says that if you have an epicenter you have to set the jumper of the overdrive to the unbalanced position, so if besides the epicenter i have a component amp plug to the overdrive it means i´ll be sending unbalanced signal to the amp as well.

SO... unbalanced signal can cause damage to an amp or why audiocontrol send the overdrive with balanced as factory setting?

a little explanation of balanced and unbalanced would be also appreciatted..
