'93 Taurus H.U. install questions

I am helping a friend install an Alpine CDA-7894 in his '93 Taurus and I've got a couple of questions.

1. On the new head unit, there is a sticker hanging off of the battery wire that says "Do not connect behind dash, connect directly to fuse block or battery." We aren't putting in an amp or anything right now, can we just use the stock battery wire???

2. I am also having trouble finding a wiring diagram for the stock radio. I checked here and the colors don't match what is in the dash. Is there anywhere else I can get an accurate diagram?

We made some headway on the second question. We were able to figure out which wires are for which speaker by using an AA battery, but I still need a way to figure out which one is positive and which one is negative.

This is how the pairs look, but which is positive and which is negative???

Front right: green/red & white/green

Front left: blue/white & orange/green

Rear right: tan/white & pink/blue

Rear left: blue/pink & pink/green

Did you cut off the stock plugs, or were they already cut off? If you still have the plug, match it up to the speaker wires; they alternate, positive and negative pins along the plug.

As for the power wire, some Alpine head units have a high power internal amplifier that draws more current than some factory wire harnesses can supply. Fords are famous for running their constant power wire through a 5-amp fuse. If you were using separate amps to run your speakers, you wouldn't need a high current supply for the head unit; but if the head unit is running the speakers, you probably should go to the battery or the ignition harness wiring.

Thanks for the link Justin, I found the info I needed for the harness there.

So, does everyone else agree that I should run a seperate battery wire since I'm using it to power the speakers, or can I get away with using the wire that was powering the stock HU?

Edit: I just ran a seperate wire. Better safe than sorry I guess.
