8ga wire for speaker terminals?

I see some people go a bit out of the way and use 8ga wire for wiring up the subwoofer. Is that really necessary?

I have a PG RSDC 12" and i will be feeding it 1000w at 1 ohm, should i upgrade from my regular 12 or 16 ga speaker wire to 8 ga?

And im talking about when wiring the woofer in series or parallel etc..

Is there any difference?

Ac power from my wall works fine on 12ga plugins, does 120v which if converted over to watts is like 7k watts.

For your scenario I'd go with 10-12 gauge. The people that use 8 gauge are usually .1db chasers, and it may or may not add a .1 but better to do it in hopes of it being better. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif.

For the average person, 10 and 12 gauge are just fine. I use 10 gauge and it does fine with 3kW.
