Amp Going Into Protect

A friend of mine who I am helping install a head unit has a problem. The amps had no problems with the factory haed unit installed. But after wiring up the pioneer head unit the sub amp powers and works fine but for the life on meI can not figure out why the other amp a Cadence keeps going into protection the green light and the red light both come on. When power is applied the amps green light comes on than shortly after the red light comes on.I have tried taking the wake up line out and using a peiceofwire to go from the 12v power to the remote and that keeps the protection light from comming on for a little longer but still comes on. any suggestions?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

bad rca's??...

But it worked before we changed the head unit
My guess would be the factory hu and the aftermarket hu have different pre-out voltages, the aftermarket hu should be higher, which means the gain on the amp would have to be up higher on the factory hu than with the aftermarket hu. If the gain is where it was with the factory hu with the aftermarket hu in there the gain might be up too high causing the amp to go into protect. Try turning the gain down and see if it helps.

Well the firsts head unit was the actual factory head unit and had a high level to lo level converter box that was used to make speaker level rca level.

"the amp did not have line level inputs"

i had a similar problem with my cadence....turned out my power connection was a lil loose and the voltage goin to the cadence was a bit low causing it to go into protect. they are very sensitive to this, more-so than any of the other amps i have owned....it was still gettin like 11 volts but going into protect after i fixed this the amp hasnt gone into protect since

Did you reposition the amp and accidently screw it down into metal (ground) you don't want to do that unless you have rubber or plastic spacers keeping the screw off the amp chassis
