880PRS wiring question

Just to be on the safe side, the wiring harness for the unit only has 1 blue wire which is for remote turn on lead I'm guessing. But do I also connect my antenna turn on from the factory harness (blue wire also)? I have two amps that will be connected to the turn on lead on the HU harness so will it be safe to add a third one (antenna turn on)?

i had to on my bmw. If you have a power antenna you will get shit reception if you dont connect it to the remote wire

It shouldn't cause any problems. The amps and antenna don't draw draw much power from the remote wire. Connect them all and see if it works. Worst case scenario is that they don't work and you might have to wire one of them through a different lead, such as cigarette lighter. No damage should be caused though. Just FYI, I have both of my amps remote wires running off of my cigarette lighter, and the lighter outlet still works fine.

3 amps is usually considered the maximum on a HU's remote wire. The two amps plus the antenna remote might be pushing it... Most amp remote wires on HUs are rated for a maximum of 300mA or so. Personally, I'd put a relay on there... With only 3 devices you might get away with it, depending on what they draw from the remote wire, but a relay is just cheap insurance and can save you from frying the remote circuit in the HU.

A simple $5 SPDT or SPST 12V relay will do fine. Pin 85 or 86 connect to the HUs blue wire, connect the other (either of 85 or 86 that you didn't use) to ground. Then connect the amps and antenna to pin 30. Connect +12V to pin 87 and that's it (recommended you fuse this connection at 5A or so, or use an exisiting fused circuit in the vehicle like the constant 12V line to the HU).

I'd never heard of the 300mA max, but it's good to know. I don't see why the power antenna would draw any more than an amp would. It's the same basic operation. Wiring in a relay hadn't occurred to me, but I agree that it would be a good idea and cheap insurance. I really doubt that the two amps and the antenna would draw enough to harm the head unit though. But it never hurts to be cautious.
