I am upgrading my amp

I have 8 gauge power wire run now...dont really want to pull it out

Is 8 gauge OK for a 1000watt amp bridged to 480rms?

8 gauge may be pushing it. if you can fit 4 gauge go 4 gauge //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it all depends what size your fuse is like 60 and above needs 4 gauge, but aney thing under that is fine

more importantly is the length of the wire. If you are only running like 6-8 ft of 8 ga I dont see it being an issue. Now if you are running like 16ft of power cable then you should really move up to 4 ga.

They want 2.50 a foot for 4AWG power wire at the audio shop... Im just going to cut the ends off my 4 gauge jumper cables and use them.... because its in a boat and the power run is about 12 feet.

I have a 400RMS mono an for the first week had 8ga. It wouldnt shut off but would get hot quick but when I put the 4ga on it solved all the problems.......

wire too small doesn't make an amp hot. if anything it would make it not as hot.

at 15' or less 8 ga is fine for that amp.
