6.5" component set alternative to old Seas Performance?

Hi guys, long time no see. I've had cars recently that weren't productive to do car stereo so I've been absent.

I have a vehicle now I'm planning on upgrades and I'm looking for components first off.

I've had CDT and Diamond middle of the roads, OZ Audio Matrix and Seas Performance. I liked all of the speakers. The OZ had great midbass and the Seas were my favorite. I liked the tight/responsive mids as well as the clean sound reproduction. I'm a big fan of silk tweeters since my ears are sensitive to harsh high's.

What I'm wondering is if there's a good set of speakers in the $350-500 range that really compare to the Seas Perf? The new Seas Lotus are $1k and I'm not putting that much into components.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Nada? I know there are some Seas lovers here that can help me out!

Now I'm thinking maybe the Rainbow Germaniums or the Profi kicks. Anything else comparable? Detailed midrange and strong midbass...

Morel Elate

HAT Legatia

Focal K2P series

AVI BSM

Hertz Mille

Dynaudio esotec

Some may stretch that budget. IMHO all sound better than seas. If you want the same level as seas, to me that would be ID cx or sx line and any focal model above access, just as seas, both are very respectable. Willing to go just a hair under but still remain exceptional,,,, dls iridium, zapco ref and rainbow x-plain. Many others out there as well. Not a big fan of harsh tweets either. Can't you do a 3 db cut on them to make it sound right? A lot of the higher ends go with metal tweets. A dedicated amp or eq can tame the overpowering tone.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply.

Stretching the budget is okay if I'm getting a setup I'll really enjoy.

I've done the 3db cut to help out with harshness and had good luck with that. Most of the component sets I've had come with that option on the crossover.

For right now I'm planning on passive. If I could try out the metal tweets first that might give me more options.

I will check out those suggestions some more. Hopefully I can find a shop to demo. Not many choices... Car Toys has Focal but sucky demo setups so it's pointless to listen there.

Woofersetc.com the online car audio super store, the largest selection at the lowest prices!

And ebay are all I know of maybe someone else can help you out. Seems like I have bought morel from Amazon as well, sorry can't remember. Only have used woofersect for rainbow.

I just got some in Friday. HERTZ ENERGY HSK 165 6.5" 2 WAY COMPONENT SPEAKERS NIB - eBay (item 330427849015 end time May-06-10 12:12:44 PDT) Extremely good quality for the price. They are running off a milbert, which tends to tell on speakers if they are not superb. They would not have let me down for 3x the price. They are not $1k speakers but remarkable for budget high end sound.

Good luck.
