I'd like your opinion guys.

My car came with a stupid lil thing they call a subwoofer. This thing is as flat as a piece of paper. I dont even thing this thing has a magnet. So with that being said I was considering replacing it with a real subwoofer. I think its 6.5 inches.

There wont be any box. it would be simply sitting on the rear parcel just like any rear speakers.

Would you recommend me doing this?

How do subs sound without a box?

Do you think the bass would be enough?

Im not enough loud booming noise. I just like a nice clean sound.

I do have a 12 inch sub in a box that im using now. However the trunk is too low and the box cannot go all the way back in the trunk, which make things very impractical.

You won't be able to run IB with 6.5 subs - I don't know of any that would remotely be able to do it, even if you sealed off your trunk completely. 6.5" subs are definitely doable, but you need to design your box well. I'd even go so far as to suggest you have someone build you a T-line, such as SPY.

sorry, what IB?

It means infinite baffle, basically running a speaker without an enclosure (it actually uses the trunk as an enclosure). If you were to run a sub on the rear deck without an enclosure, it would be called IB - there are specific specs that make a subwoofer well suited for running IB. The elemental designs e3.6 CAN be run IB, but you'd probably want at least 2, just for the sake of output.

IB = Infinite Baffle (basically the whole trunk sealed off acting as a very large box) Most ppl who do that use large woofers that have specs to work well in that application. (search the forum for some nice builds).

I agree that a 6.5" woofer wouldn't do much in that sort of application but in a small box might get you something. TL box would definitely do something but that starts getting pretty big so at that point you might as well have a box built for a larger sub anyway.

Honstly whatever is in the factory "subwoofer" hole will probably do BETTER than anything you'll just drop in as a replacement unless you plan to do other upgrades since it'll be very efficient and actually somewhat designed for that application in that car.

very interesting. Thanks

Would it give a deeper loud bass than say a 6.9 speaker? Im tempted to buy one of those Ed and test it out.

does it have the h/k system. i have s 09 also and just dont mess with it. not worth it

Nah. I removed the HK system I currently have a AVH-P4200DVD HU. Rainbow mids with Image Dynamics tweeters. I removed the factory amp and simply have the deck woofer disconnected. If you have the MANUAL climate control its easy to go after market.
