so im going to be running two 12" hdd's and thinking of pairing them with a stetsom 7kd. is it possible to push between 5k-7k watts rms in my car off of just a 240a alternator if i beef up with a bunch of batteries? or am i looking at a dual alternator type of setup with alot of batteries. the car all of this is going into is a dd

most would say that to run that type of power, you would need to upgrade your electricals. starting with the big 3-1/0g wire, high output alt, multiple runs of 1/0g wire and several agm batt including under the hood. someone on here that knows more than i do, please chime in and clarify. you will have to do a considerable amount of research to be able to properly run that type of power, or you could end up with a 3000 pound charred paperweight.

i agree. i have the alternator already. planning on doing a bunch of agm batts starting with one under the hood. i wana do it the safest way possible as well. i dont want a 3000lb charred newly renovated homeless shelter sitting on the side of the road using my hdd's as pillows

One agm under hood .. 3 g31's in rear

timmy, would he need a bigger alt? when i was trying to find a ho alt, i was told that with a 240a alt, that is the size i found from tenney, (it is being rebuilt by singer to 300/180 at idle) it arrived d.o.a., i could safely run up to a 2000wrms amp with a 2nd agm in the rear.

I have a dual alt setup on my truck but both are crappy alts (for now). One is a 140amp and the other is an 100 amp. So I have around the same alternator output as you. I have stock battery up front and 5 deka group 31s in the back, with multiple runs of sky high 1/0. Im running a powerbass 5k at 1/2 ohm nominal on 4 DD 2510s. Most regular songs (rap) my voltage stays fine, but any kind of bass enhanced music, I have to be careful cause it will drop quick. So I would say go for it for now. Just watch your voltage and plan for a bigger or second alternator when you can afford it.

fo sho. so something like dubstep would **** on my voltage and i would struggle to stay in a safe range

and i wont need a second alternator? just multiple runs of 0 gauge and those batteries
I have a 200 amp Tenney alt and a few agm's few runs of 0 gauge big 4 etc.. I have already supported 5k and am adding batts and moving up to 7k this year .. Do 2 pos runs 2 neg you should be more then fine with that alt .. Just keep your batts maintained

Yes with a second agm .. You would have 0 drop basically running on alt power .. Once you surpass that amperage the alt puts out that's where the batts come in to play .. And then your gunna drop to batt resting levels .. Any lower is when the problems start

for sure. thats what im hoping for. and its not like im going to be daily driving and listening to the system full crank for the whole day. 5k+ watts rms daily wuld hurt my face

5 31's and dropping like that ??? With the 200 amp alt and one g31 in the rear I was able to run .5 daily on a saz 4500 ... 4 cca runs as well

Most likely..... And how do you like the HDDs? If you don't mind me thread jacking for a quick moment
waiting on my first one to arrive and ordering the second one tomorrow. in the middle of my project. i will post feedback as soon as i get this monster set up
