$550 for a system for rock

My friend said he wants to have some bass in his car. He listens to only rock and loves double bass. He has around $550 to $600 to spend. This includes the headunit so he has has around $450 to spend on sub(s), amp, box materials(30 bucks) and wires. What would you guys recommend? Box has to be sealed. What subs sound good sealed. He was thinking maybe a single 12" Type-R but i have heard they don't sound so great sealed. Is this true?

those kicker subs will sound like total balls. also, that hifonics amp is overrated. stay away from their bxi and hfi series. the only series worth getting from hifonics is their BRZ and colossus.

I purchased a 1500w audiopipe new from vminnovations.com for $135 shipped, and it puts out the power it says it does. however, if he has the extra $$ i would spend it on something more like a MB quart 1000, or an AQ 750/1200

Really? I mean i had a 12" Kicker CVR i thought it sounded pretty decent. However mine was ported and i only listened to rap. Have you heard a sealed CVR? And i know the Hifonics is over-rated. My brother has had a BXi 1206D for 4 years now though without any problems. It probably only puts out about 900 clean rms but is $200 for 900 rms a bad deal? Thanks for the replies guys

Ill look into the audiopipe. He's pretty set on this price limit tho

just get like an rockford fosgate shallow with a rockford 300 rms punch with 8 gauge knukonceptz amp kit that will be perfect setup up and that will cost alittle less, u dont need anything over 500rms for rock music

We install sealed CVRs all day long. If you put RMS clean power to them they will sound good. Everyone around here has a boner for hating on Kicker. Don't let them lie to you.

No a CVR won't outdo a 3000w RMS sub, but it will do quite well for the money invested in it. I would do something different than the HiFonics amp, however. You could get an RE or Sundown amp for fairly cheap and it will do rated, and has a good damping factor.

i personally would go with an audioque amp. sundown amps cost way too much IMO. you can get an AQ750 for $200 AQ750 Amplifier

also, audiopipe does put out the power they say they do. i would recommend it if you're on a tight budget but if you have the extra $75 or so go with a nicer amp that puts out clean power

ill probably get flamed for this, but a w7 has been the best sub ive had/heard that can play doublebass. if you can find one, i suggest doing that. and they sound really really good in sealed boxes.

much better sub then that cvr, designed specifically for sealed and only smalled, .95 to be exact which is a small rock box.

only good hifonics is the brz line, they put out rated. but for its price id do mb quart amp, or for the money the audiopipe is a much better amp then the hifi series.

if i was going audiopipe i would def spend the extra 20 bucks and get the 1500 watt one. always good to have extra power on tamp so you dont have to put the gain up and have a cleaner output.

why does it have to be sealed? I run AQ subs: SDC's in the daily and HDC's in the comp car and they keep up very well with fast double kicks and have plenty of punch. they like higher tuning which seems to work very well for rock. Plenty of ported subs can work well for rock in the right enclosure.
