****, 499 for an HO alternator..

Well the way I see it is, 1300 watts is going to need ~130 Amps.
My stock alternator is producing 105 amps, which is more like 50 at idle I'd say. Plus then at least 50 is going to my cars electrical system leaving 55 that is only available at high RPM. Seems like I need a lot more.

If you had an amp with a low 80% efficiency and a voltage of 13.8 (which is easily attainable with a hot running alternator) that's 113amps. Where are you getting that it would take 130? You could easily run your car and that amp with a 180amp alt.

Sorry, but I've never upgraded electrical. Do you basically add up allthe fuse ratings on your amps and look for that size or better alt?

So if I want to run an AQ2200D, that's 200 amps right there?

Or an SAZ-3000 that's 300 amps, I need a compition 300 amp

alternator?

And thats not even factoring in the 60 or so amps to run mids and highs?
Amperage is determined by wattage divided by voltage. Using safe numbers, an alternator can easily maintain 13.8 volts. No amp is 100% efficient in power conversion, so to be safe you should also increase your amps rated RMS by 15%. This would give you an 85% efficient rating. So if you had a 1500RMS amp, the amperage required (at peak) would be 125 amps. Don't forget to add 30-50 amps for your cars electrical.

Even then, it's no big deal if you have to cut it close. That's what an extra battery is for.

How about Knukonceptz alternators? They have some decent prices imo

I m in same situation with you, silenkiller. I am looking for a HO alternator, but am not too sure on which should I get (and dont want to pay too much either, hopefully $300 or less)

I got a 1995 Ford Explorer 4.0L

I got 2k watts amp.. so you are saying I need approximately 150Amps (plus 50 amps for car's electricals) so I will need to buy a 200 Amps alternator and it will do the job?

Conservative would be 166amperes for your amp so 220 would be best. But 200 may do it and would do it with a good battery. It can all depend on what you listen to and how loud you typically listen to it. Your amp rarely if ever pulls full RMS wattage.

Yeah, I gotcha.. 15% of 2k is 2,300

so 2,300 divided by 13.8= 166 (+50 amps for car electricals) = about 225

I guess I ll be looking for 250Amps alternator..

I am going to have 2 optima yellowtops in my vehicle and big 3 if necessary.. then it should be fine.. correct?

can anyone give me excessive amperage's customer service's email address?

since I tried to click on "contact us" on their website, it would navigate to "mail" on my mac and I dont use it so I cant get in to see the email address (i use yahoo)

help would be appreciated, I am looking to get a quote from them.

With two optima's 200-220 would be fine. If you can find a 250+ alt I'd start with only one optima as you probably won't need the second one.

When you upgrade your alternator the big three is mandatory. Stock wiring can't handle the high amperage.

If I have a Honda, should an alternator quote be $400+?

I e-mailed HOalt.com and they quoted me $499 =/

Just sent Nate from EA an email..anybody have a guesstimate on how much it would cost? Looking for 150+ amp alt..
