4 Channel into 3 Channel

I know this is probably a stupid noobie question but here goes.

If you had a 4 channel amp say 100 watts x 4, if you run front speakers off channels 1 & 2 and bridge channels 3 & 4 to run one sub, does the sub get 200w and the fronts still get 100 each???

run 2 channels off the 2 speakers and run the last 2 bridged for the sub so you dont have to gain match

It will depend on the bridged output on the amp.

Usually bridging two channels into one will give you a single output equal to the two channels' 2 Ohm output combined.

Most Class A/B amps will do 50% or more of their 4 Ohm output when given a 2 Ohm load in stereo.

So, let's say in theory that your amp is rated for 100w X 4 @ 4 Ohms.

If so, then most likely it will do around 150w X 4 @ 2 Ohms stereo.

Your bridged output will then be around 300w when combining 2 channels.

What amp are we talking about specifically?

Thanks for the replies.

The amp is a RF 750x which puts out 93.75w x 4 @ 4ohm, 187.5w x 4 @ 2ohm, and 375w x 2 @ 4ohm bridged.

Thats the advertised RMS power, the birthsheet is 981w total @ 2ohm. So I'm thinking it's about 122w x 4 @ 4 ohm. Sound about right???

Is the sub getting 244w or 490w ????

yes but your going to want to put a x-over on the wire going to the sub or you'll have a crap load of unwanted frequencies going to that thing
