i have been tweaking and tweaking on my WinISD Pro and can only get any of the 12" subs that i can afford to hit in the high 120's. is there any way i can get an Elemental e12k SVC to hit in the high 130's or low 140's? I only have 3ft^3 to work with and i know the key to SPL is a big ported box. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

any suggestions or thoughts are welcome.

Ok first, 120 and 130 is so easy. I did 138 with 2 12w0's in a sealed box with 150watts. My cousin in his integra with one cheap *** ten in a big ported box with 300watts is doin 140. So yes put it in a 3cuft box with lots of port area. that sub should do it easy

you just have to remember that winisd is for an anechoic chamber. it does not factor in cabin gain for your car, among other things. if you wanna see what itll do as far as output, put it in the box you wanna run...and put the same sub in a sealed box at a .707 alignment (its the curve that automatically shows up when you make a sealed box sub)...the difference between the 2 is about how many dB you gain in car by going ported, although it wont tell you what kind of numbers you will hit, as they are affected a lot by ambient temp, which doors/windows are open, sub box placement, mic placement (big factor), what mic youre using (VERY big factor)...etc.

thanks you guys have been really helpful!

so you're saying that ill gain like 10 to 20 db's if i have all the parameters in my car figured out and set that way? windows, doors, etc.

oh yeah, i forgot to tell you i have an '83 Toyota Cressida sedan. the trunk ive heard is a bad place for SPL as opposed to an SUV or something. am i right?

thanks though i'm not expecting to set world records or anything i just want to know where i can find db equvalents.

Example:

60db = Normal conversation

135db = ?

is 135 even a respectable db for a daily driver?

within a few dB of that...yes. but there are plenty daily driver systems that do 140+ for reasonable amounts of cash, and wattage. for example, a pair of ported adire tempests should do mid 140's in a family sedan (midsize)...but there's a LOT of variables there...that cant be accounted for by any program.

in car audio, its 10% product and 90% install. it was nate munson who did 170 dB with a single 15" sub, and 4 dei 1100d amps. just about anything is achievable...it just takes a lot of work, a lot of work, a lot of work, and knowing what youre doing.

with these doors and windows things coming up, all should be closed. else air escapes the cab and not giving you a full potential to hit higher numbers

no i havent checked my PM's for a while but i just read it now go to http://www.linearteam.org and get WinISD Pro. WinISD has more subs to choose from but it is harder to work with and has fewer options. i have both so i can transfer info on 1 sub to another in the Pro version. they are free
