i have a 351 windsor that i was going to sell but it doesnt seem worth it to let go of it. engine is brand new

im looking to start piecing it together real soon. this is going to be a slow build. what i plan on getting 1st is edelbrock 202 cylinder heads. is there anything else out there around $600 that are better than these. also any good places that you reccomend to buy from?

would it be better to bore(sp?) it out to a 427w? has crossed my mind but i honestly dont see it too much better for a daily driver. any imput and reccomendations on which parts to go with will be gladly taken. oh and i plan on putting a 6 speed ****** too

this is for my daily driver //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I had a F150 Lightning bottom end and a set of over-ported heads with .208 valves, a crower cam, edelbrock performer RPM, and a 700 carb in my '91 LX and it went 120mph in the 1/4. those heads should do just fine unless you can find some used from an honest person at the track who just wants to "go bigger".

i have found someone local who can get me performance parts for pretty cheap. so i can get them for about 500 a piece maybe a little less. depends on how the guys shop is doing lol

if you can find a nice set of victory jrs or afr 185's those would be really nice, otherwise the edelbrocks performer rpms are fine. the victory jrs and 185's are just a bit bigger and suit a 351 a little better. Also if your going to stroke it, go simple, 408 kit is alot cheaper than a 427 "usually" and its only 19 cubes... not that big of a deal.

351 block will take 700-800hp if tuned correctly, if not its just as much of a time bomb as a 302w

I wouldn't go to a 427...

I'd just bored it .030 over..

Holley has a setup for about 1500 that comes with complete heads, intake, cam, and timing chain and gears that is said to provide 450 horsepower on a stock bottom end...

ill ask the guy if he can get me a set. and see price difference if so. thanks

Go with AFR 185 heads, Victor Jr. intake, 408 cu in. rotatating assembly with the Nascar style small main bearing option and an 850 cfm carb. Make sure you get a quality harmonic balancer like Fluiddamper, and shop around for a machine shop with a good name that has been around for a while to do the block work.

More displacement will always get you more power. But just for your reference you wont get 427 cubes out of the 351 by just boring it over. The 351w will have to be stroked. I agree with the earlier post. Stroked to a 408 with a good cam and head setup will net some very nice gains.

well i never really plan on going with a 427 or even a 408. just wanted to see if its worth the gains for a daily driver. id be happy with a 302 5.0 but i mean i got the engine so i might as well use it and make good of it. would really want a 88-93 foxbody for this engine since that car handles alot better and weighs less.

AFR heads...yes, Victor Jr.....no, way to big. Stick with a stock bottom end and concentrait on the top end. Once you start getting into that crap it get more complex, everyone and their fvcking dog is giving you their opinions, and the bill is HUGE considering all the crap your friends are telling you to do. Unless you can do all the work yourself but if your asking these questions I'm guessing you'll pay someone. The house I could of had if I'd of just built my motor simple. I went 120mph on a 'out of the box' 700cfm carb and my motor was mis-matched to the hilt because i listened to too many people.

stock bottom end

AFR 185 heads (out of the box)

Air Gap Performer RPM

Holley 750

Aggressive mid-range rollor cam

Remember...keep everything matched close to your motor's RPM range.

This will be good for 11.0 to 11.5 1/4 mile times and it's a simple combo that won't break the bank. When you have a motor completely built you are releying on too many people to get their shit right and if one dude had a bad day while working on your motor you won't know till you start it up. This is your chance to learn from someone who learned too late. We are talking bolting this crap on, tuning, and going to the track that night.
