$300mill for new auto battery

Ahead of John McCains game but Lithium Ion is not the future, it still creates pollution and lithium ion batterys still have half lifes and all though they can re-charge they will still need to be replaced at some point. Like any lithium ion battery they will only last so long, the worst part is the costs of Lithium Ions. Not sure if you noticed but there not the cheapest things in the world. We mine as well just cut holes in our floor boards and "Flinestone" around town until they develop hydrogen or wind more.
No one knows where energy storage technology can go, so saying its a waste is rather close minded. What makes wind or hydrogen better a better alternative? Why not use the sun?

exactly, there is no incentive for any company within the oil industry to introduce an alternative fuel; they will lose billions and billions of dollars they have become accustomed to making off of oil.
what I really like is how well Bush has used his influence to have the Saudi's increase their production, but yet the Saudi's don't know why there is a "shortage" and the high price that we are all experiencing...

how about u put that 300 million to building oil rigs?!?
Oil is finite. It will run out.

Whats a new battery going to do? Absolutly nothing for us, maybe hes trying to distract the current alternative projects that are actually making progress. This prize thing seems more like a draw back than anything. Pretty sure we had battery powered cars in the 90s and they failed. Seems like now we need to focus on wind and hydrogen power. Things that are cleaner and way more efficient than batteries will ever be.
Hydrogen is not a viable solution.

and until it does there will be no alternative fuel source PERIOD; again I will say it - there is no incentive for them (oil company's) to introduce a more affordable alternative fuel source when they control the market. They would lose billions upon billions of dollars in revenue, for what $300 million. Some MIT brainiac will discover it and BP will buy it for $500 million and we still won't have an alternative fuel.

what about the discovery of burning salt water...

but as the video says - if some big company wants to buy it for lots of $$$ that's fine...again we get back to square one!!!

I think it is a good idea, the only thing killing electric vehicles is the battery technology which is why it failed in the 80's & 90's. I saw a recent article on a lithium ion battery that increased it's life so greatly that it could power a laptop for days or somthing like that. I drive 100 miles a day round trip, give me an electric that will re-charge from my house and get a 100-150 mile range at least and I will buy it today.

Use wind and solar to recharge the battery and then recycle it when it is done //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

On what time line is there plenty?
no body knows dude all we know is that if we drill more we get more, and there is lots left in the ground

all the **** hippiis and serria club people say that it screws up places if we drill there.....even though it doesnt......they are the people keeping the gas at 4.50 a gallon

BRILLIANT!!!!!!! U care to elaborate?
Let's see - Honda has discovered this...
It's not.

Per unit of volume hydrogen is only 1/3 the energy....so to have the same amount of energy of 10 gallons of gas, you would need 30 gallons of hydrogen. This is less in liquid form, but it is hard and expensive to cool hyrdrogen enough.

Why don't you blame the braniac at MIT for selling out?

He doesn't have the means to produce to the economy; point being he is in it only for the money - just as the oil company's who buy it - they have no intention of introducing it until they have to.

There are people out there with greater access to capital than oil companies. You act as if that is the only game in town.....plus $500MM is chump change.
