$300 Budget Build

Yeah I'll face the seats down next time. And if I was driving down the road should I still have the window half way down? Would 2 12 inch gt5s be louder in the same box (but made for 12s obv) than 1 15? I think it more cost effective to have 2 12s for 100 than 1 15 for 85? Just thinking out loud
And I had 2 12s, but that's not even worth mentioning eh lol
stick with two 15s as the end goal. No that box is fine for the 15s, dont deviate from that, the 12s will not be louder at all unless you plan on doing 4 12s.. Window thing is Just when you are giving demos or when you want to feel it a bit more, its your choice to do it whenever you want.

Im just trying to stick within the limits of the $300, I kinda want to get everything all at once, and not have to wait for the other 15. But, I will listen to the advice given because I don't want to end up wasting my money anyway in the long run, patience is a virtue that I do not have lol. Curious, why wouldnt 2 12s in the same spec box not be louder than 1 15 on the same amp and box?

two 12s will be slightly louder for now but its not gonna be that loud unless you go well designed custom ported(not that prefab sh*t you were looking at... but if you are patient you can be MUCH louder with two 15s. Go big or go home.

cone area of two 12s ~ 226^2 inches

Cone area of one 15 ~ 176^2 inches

cone area of two 15s ~ 353^2 inches

I see, that makes sense. But what about the prefab, it was tuned fairly low, double baffled, besides being pricey it seems like it would perform the same as a custom made box built to the same specs. I know most ported boxes are trash, tuned way too high, cheap usually 5/8 mdf, but this one seems legit.

They are Mobile sound works boxes. Guess what, their headquarters is down the street from me in santa ana. They use specs for a much beefier sub and their company gets bombarded with 1 star ratings on yelp. They use minimal wood glue and much less wood then you think, they just put the big baffle to fool you, underneath is like 1/2 MDF on all the other sides. When you put weak subs in these boxes, its not gonna work out too well. You need a proper box with proper port area matching the electromechanical specs of your subwoofer.

The box is designed around the subwoofer not the other way around where you try to make a sub act nice inside a random box.

two 12s would be louder on the lower frequencies... if you actually attempt to build a proper custom ported box. In terms of overall spl though, two 15s should match two 12s ported pretty well all things considered.

didnt know it was the specific. I thought as long as the airspace was correct and the tuning frequency was within a certain region you'd be good to go - not for best of the best purposes, but for a cheap budget daily beater. Here's hoping I can get another 15 soon.

how does this stack up to the JBl? Im thinking for the price of $85, is there anything better for a tad bit more?

they are an upgrade, but need power. I would have recommended you the regular brands we use but they either require a lot more power, or a properly built to subwoofer and vehicle spec ported box with proper knowledge or a lot more money in general.

I would not put them those XD subs in a sealed and expect amazing results from it.

I'll stick with the 15s. thanks
on a side note, i think i have a buddy with a kenwood kac 9105D he can probably sell for cheap which will give you loads of power vs that cheapy mb quart.

@roko
If he can do it for my budget range then im good.
