3 12's vs 2 15's...I'm stumped.

So, I had 3 JL 12W3's running off an Xtant X1001 in a 99 Cobra (Mustang), in the trunk rear-firing, in a sealed 2.97 cu.ft. enclosure a while ago. Most recently, I had 2 RE SE15's running off a Crunch GP3000D-Pro in a SUV, sealed box with 4 total cu.ft.

What is baffling me is that that although I have more cone area, significantly more power, and a SUV, the Cobra still sounded louder I will say the Durango seems to play the lows a little better, but overall, the Cobra seemed quite a bit louder from say 30-35hz+.

Any ideas why? Is that just characteristic of the 12's vs. the 15's?

at what ohm are you running th gp3000

1 ohm...so that would be 3k in theory...I would guess probably a solid 2,400+ with my set-up

Interesting...not sure of rise, or how to measure. I'm sure I can find that on here somewhere though. Didn't realize the vehicle had anything to do with it though.

a drango is basicly like a jeep grand cherekee and with a single 15 in a ported box t4 soundsteam on a hifonics xxchaos at 1 ohm bridged with 4 ga and stock electical i did a 147.6 at 45hrz

with my saz3500 at .6 i clamped my amps with a ported box at 2000 rms so i would dout your seeing 2400 rms

i switched from using 2 saz3500s at .6 to 1 at .3 and only lost 400 watts of power and put up the same score do to i did not have to match the amps

You could also have an extremely different box rise so your assumptions about his power are not justified. And Gp3K's do rated.

What does "clamping" an amp mean?

Using a clamp meter and some cool math to see exactly how much power your amp is putting out.

Yes, You have more cone area. You also have a lot more cabin room as well.
