Hi guys. I have a 2014 Jeep GC with the HK 19 speaker system. For a stock system, it's very good but I want just a little more bottom end without loosing space. I know that I can buy the jl audio stealthbox for my car. As an alternative, can I upgrade the woofer in the stock subwoofer box? It is an 8". My car has the brown interior and I don't think JL makes that one. I'm thinking of upgrading the sub, possibly adding some dowels as bracing to the box, and adding an micro/mini amp such as a precision power 900 watt (450rms) or American bass 800 rms. Here are my 3 questions:
assuming I can find an 8" that will fit, will I run into trouble with the higher excusion of a alpine type s or r in relation to the stock grill?
I've heard the stock box is crap. Would adding dowels to stiffen it up help or do enough to make it work? I spend a lot of time on avsforum in the diy section so that spurred this crazy idea.
Finally, to add an amp, what is the best way as far as taking the stock signal and feeding the amp. Will I need to get an lc1 or will the speaker level input on the amp be fine? The LCI is basically as big as both of the amps I mentioned, if not bigger so it will add more gear and wiring to the equation.
I don't know if anyone has tried this, but if you've seen anything like this done, let me know. I am essentially a newbie since I haven't touched car audio since the early 2000's.
