why is there smoke?
Let me start this out by saying this is not my car, but it belongs to my brother. The goal with this system is to add a little bass to the car that seemed to get washed out at high volumes with the stock system. We are also on a tight budget and wanted to keep the cost of everything when we were all said and done under 500. Now he is thinking of upgrading mids and highs

For starters we went with a pioner deh 3300

Here is a picture of it installed

For wire we went with Knukonceptz 0 gage CCA. Wiring it was not fun at all. It took about 3 hours. I wanted to avoid pulling up the seats at all cost because it has been known to throw a Air bag code in these model subaru's. but after trying every way imaginable it came down to just ripping all the seats and carpet up. Thankfully the airbag light didnt come on. Every pannel I pulled off was a fight and is by far the hardest car I have had to run power wire through

I decided to start from the back to make sure I had enough slack back there. I ran the power wire and turn on wire down the left side of the car and the Rcas down the right

The RCA's were much easier to do and didnt require removing the seat here is how I ran them

We plan to throw the 8 on a audioque 750

Plans for the future are to do a full layer of Audio Technix sound deadener and a few pieces of Cld tiles.

Then replace the front stage components with a pair or hertz, morels, or cdts havent quite decided yet and amp them up. Hopefully will post pics of how the amp is mounted and everything soon.

Looks pretty good to me. It seems like you guys have a decent amount of tools to work with. The only thing I would have done different was some dowels to tie the top and bottom pieces together, but I'm someone who likes to go overboard with bracing. I see 45s in there as well, pretty advanced for a first time build.

Its always funny to see the different ways of how people make the slot- some will notch the baffle like you guys, some just cut the baffle short to make up for the width of the opening, some will just cut out a whole rectangle in a full width baffle....many ways to skin a cat.

looks pretty solid to me. should have some nice sq after you add the aftermarket speakers and deadener.
Kind of what the goal is, he told me he wanted all out sound quality so I showed him what went into one of those builds and he quickly changed his mind . His last car was 2 sony xplode 12s on 400 watts with kicker coaxial all around lol. I think this will give him a huge improvement in sound quality and spl.

Right now its just a waiting game for the sub to arrive. I will hopefully post a video up and pics. Im really interested to see just how loud one of these will get on just 500 watts rms.

Sony xplod on stock speakers was my first setup lol. He'll be happy for sure

I happen to know of someone in the area with a meter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif
Did you get that spl meter ? Would be interesting to do a before and after sound deadener comparison:)

also another update subs estimated arrival time is wednesday

Yep I got it and its working great. I can put the meter anywhere including at the headrest like meca.
Nice he is not too worried about numbers though but It would be interesting to see how it did in a trunk car on 500 watts.

Im not too familiar with meters but would it show us where his car peaks at and how flat the response is from it? it would help out knowing that lol.

I think it would be very beneficial for forum members to see it metered and we will be able to see where the car peaks at and how flat it plays. What I did for some personal testing was take a 15sec average and plot the reading in ms excel then make a line chart to show how the output goes up and down throughout the freq range.

yea it would be really helpfull to see the cars peak and everything and how flat it plays. Only 1 more day for it to arrive.

Well yesterday was not a fun day. but we finally got the sub.

We had quite a few problems actually droping the sub in place and had to do some sanding on cut out for the sub for it too fit. The mounting rings and the edge of the basket are way to **** close together take a look at the pic there is that much clearance all the way around

here is the amp rack. Thrown together but sometimes its best to keep it simple
