2008 Kia Hatchback 12" SE Build

Right now SPY is in the process of finishing my enclosure which will be 2.0 cubes tuned to 32hz. The amp mounted to the backseat is a Alpine MRP-650 doing 600@2ohms.

I really want to get the amp off of the seat since the box I did have in there was scuffing it up. I'm trying to figure out the best way to have a platform for the box to sit on. I took out the flimsy particleboard which could barely support my small sealed box. I can build a little amp rack but I'm not sure where I can put it.

I like the way it sounds sub back, port back.

Anybody have any ideas?

If you are not running a spare, why not make a amp rack there and install it there? Out of sight, out of mind. Hell I have 2 amps and 3-way crossover there and my amps are bigger than yours, so I am sure you could make somethingto put in there. I even at one time had a 600 Kinetik down in there. This was in a Focus, but you look like you have ample room in the spare tire section. Would make the hatch look cleaner as well.

Good luck!

I was thinking of getting some 5/8" mdf and cut it to fit the trunk and mounting my box on that.

You suggest to put the amp in the spare tire well.....that's a really good idea. One question, would it get to hot since heat rises? Any tips to keep it cool.

Thanks for the idea.

Yeah, hit up your PM's, I left you my build link there.

As far as the box goes, I don't have mine mine bolted down as I have to move it to get the baby's stroller in ther and what not, which yes is a saftey hazard, but before I had my 2 12 box in there, I had 1 12 bolted to the frame with some L brackets and did the trick. Not thieves were getting that one, lol! Plus it was to the frame. If you do the MDF, make sure it is to the frame or pointless to do it. I have no choice in the matter right now.

Cooling for the amps, I don't have any, and have done fine. Had my last 3 setups like this with amps in the tire well and all worked perfect, but if you are worried about the heat, then try to drill some holes in the wood over top of it and get some carpet that is thiner so as it can breath, or get some computer fans to put in there, which will require more work to hook them up I believe.

Here are some pics of my progress so far.

I took out the crappy stock speakers and replaced them with some 6.5" Polk DB coaxials. I thought about going the component route, but I really don't want to run two amps. I think they sound really good off of my h/u. Really nice highs and the midbass is acceptable.

My 12" SE is in a small sealed enclosure but that will soon change once my box from SPY arrives.

I laid down some dynamat extreme(very easy to work with) in the trunk and plan to cover the rest next paycheck.

I'll post pics as I find the time between school and work.

BTW....this will be my first install with anything car audio. I think I'm doing pretty good so far.

Here are a few pics of the *crap* speakers that came out of the doors. Just look at the huge magnet. These things really sounded like total crap. The cone material was like cheap, flimsy plastic.

Any ideas, criticism please chime in.

I can't wait till my new box arrives and I get to customize my trunk.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Looks like it is coming along.

I still would amp those aftermarket highs. You are not even getting close to their RMS power rating off an aftermarket deck. They rate the decks way overrated, so you probably only seeing 15rms maybe 20 out your deck to them and I am sure they call for at least 50rms if not more on those Polks. You think they sound nice now, wait till you amp them! Plus adding the sub might overtake them if still on the deck.

Just my critiscm so far. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Also to get better mid bass response from the front speakers, I would dynamat those doors as well when you get the funds. Deffintley helps.

What would be a small, affordable 2 channel amp that would not draw to much power?

I did the big 3 but there is only so much a 90amp alt. can do.

put an image tag on your pics. It makes it a lot easier for us to follow. Thanks
