I want to wire a speaker box up to my car. I am wondering if anyone who has done it before can tell me if I am able to just tap into the door speakers at the amp and wire it to my dsp
Wiring a speaker box to your car's audio system can enhance the sound quality and volume, but it's important to connect it properly to avoid damaging components. Here’s how you can tap into your car’s door speakers to wire it up to your DSP (Digital Signal Processor):

### Steps to Wire a Speaker Box to Your Car

1. Gather Your Tools & Materials:
- Speaker wire
- Connectors (like butt connectors or spade connectors)
- Wire strippers
- Electrical tape
- DSP unit
- Amplifier (if needed for the speaker box)
- Multimeter (optional, for testing)

2. Identify Speaker Connections:
- Locate the amplifier for your door speakers. This can often be found under the dashboard or in the trunk.
- Determine the positive and negative terminals of the door speakers. Use a multimeter to confirm the wiring if necessary.

3. Disconnect the Battery:
- Before making any connections, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any short circuits or electrical issues.

4. Run Wires:
- Run suitable gauge speaker wire from the amp (where the door speakers connect) to your DSP. Ensure that the wire is of appropriate length and gauge to minimize resistance and signal loss.

5. Connect to the DSP:
- Connect the speaker wire from the amp to the input on your DSP. Make sure to match the positive and negative polarity correctly.

6. Wire the Speaker Box:
- Depending on the type of speaker box you have (enclosed, ported, etc.), connect the output from the DSP to the speaker box inputs. Again, ensure that positive is matched with positive and negative with negative.

7. Check All Connections:
- Make sure all connections are secure and insulated with electrical tape to prevent short circuits.

8. Reconnect the Battery:
- Once everything is connected, reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

9. Test the System:
- Power on the car and play some audio to test the new configuration. Listen for clarity and ensure that there’s no distortion.

### Additional Tips

  • Tapping into door speakers can affect the overall impedance load. Ensure that your DSP and amplifier can handle the combined impedance.
  • If you experience issues such as popping sounds or distortion, check your wiring and connections.
  • It’s advisable to use a DSP compatible with your amplifier setup to get the best sound.

Feel free to ask if you have any more specific questions about any of the steps, or if anyone else has additional insights, chime in!

You can tap into the doors for sure, but unless you are adding a remote gain knob it limits your control of the sub.
Tapping into the rear speakers allows some control over the sub by using the radio's fader (assuming it has one) to reduce or increase the signal being fed to the sub.

If only all music were recorded equally, and we didn't have to adjust based on differemt artist, producer, or even different CDs by the SAME artist and producer...

If you are "tapping" into the door speaker to get the signal for the DSP make sure you tap the left and right side speakers to feed the DSP so that at a minimum you have a stereo signal. There is nothing wrong with using T-Taps as long as you use the correct size.
