2007 Monte Carlo Build

Thank for taking a look at my thread.

So im going back to the states after being station in Japan for 18 months, and I have a 2007 Monte Carlo SS that I am going to be putting a system in. I already have a basic idea of what I want in the system, but I was looking for a little more expertise, perhaps some tweaking to my ideas.

General Idea: I want it to hit highs and hit low frequency well. My idea is a custom box for the trunk of the Monte Carlo, and if I have the room, (2) 10 in. subs and (1) 15 in. sub. I was looking at a Kicker L7 for the 15 in. but am not sure on what amp or 10 in subs to get. Would this particular setup hit most the notes I am hoping for? Its not for super low frequency, just for a lot of hip hop, so is this a good build or is there a better way? Any help is appreciated, and anyone who may have custom box plans for that trunk, and also what type of amp I should look at getting.

All help is appreciated.

Your going to need a beefy amp to run all of that, that is for sure, which means your going to need some electrical upgrades... outside of that I have never been a big fan or having multiple size subwoofers contained in the same space, different sizes can have different sounds and that may fight one another, but if you have done it before and a good understanding on it, it can be NICE....Fiberglass box is recommended, and are you going to run multiple amps for the individual subs or wire then to one load? For 10's if your gonna have the L7, I think your best bet is to keep it square so look into the l3's I heard they sound pretty good

I dont have much experience with different size subs in the same setup. I would be willing to change the sizes and types to get, because im open to all suggestions..What I mainly want to avoid is the subs bottoming out and not hitting the lower frequency on some bass drops in some hip hop songs. Would I be able to get the same results if I got (2) 12 in subs and a custom tuned box?

ya if your gonna spend the time and money to do a custom install, consider ponying a little extra do over the L7 and just get a really nice pair of 12 or what have you. THere are some really nice subs available that if the box is done right can give you a great range, provide good clean bass, and be responsive on the low end. Typically they'll require some decent power which means youll need good power source, HU, etc.

For us to better help you, answer us a few questions. What gear do you currently have? list everything from wires to head unit, etc. How much do you want to spend on everything you dont have? We can definitely give you some good direction once we know a little more

Well right now I do not have any system installed, everything in the car is stock, including the HU. I was reading alot about Apline Type X, I am considering (2) 12's because those have good reviews and all the videos on youtube they slam pretty hard. I am still in Japan right now, but im going home in 2-3 weeks, so I want to have a solid build so I can order the stuff and have it there by the time I get home. Im looking to spend around $1000, but 1G would be about the most im able to spend right now. I will for sure get a yellow or red top battery for the vechicle, and upgrade the alternator if I have to, but its a 5.3L engine, so im guessing it will already have a decent alternator.

I appreciate the quick responses so far.

I would go with the type R over the type X, I have seen those win both SPL and SQL comps when done right, plus thay are not very expensive. As far as an amp to power 2 you need about 1500-1700 to allow for some headroom where you can dial the gain back and still have full potential. Ill be the first to tell you though if your going to be cranking out a true 1500 watts all in bass, you REALLY need to amp your highs or you wont hear anything but boom boom, amping highs means yopur prolly going to want to replace the door speakers with something that can handle the power alot better as well, and yeah, not gonna lie, that will most likely put you over 2k watts, which means new alt time....

i would go something other than r's honestly. check out some of the sundown lines, or the AQ woofers. everyone has there preference. if i was you i would look in the classifieds section or even better, there is a thread in the subwoofer discussion area that helps pick and choose the pros and cons of woofers. might wanna check that out

In reference to scasking, the man knows what he is talking about, sundown, AQ they make awsome subs, but depending on exactly the sound you are going for, for the budget I think you will have good results with the type R's if you already picked them up. There WILL ALWAYS be something better, but when you have a set budget you do what you can
