my friend just got himself a 2007 mercedes E350 with navigation.

there is a sub on the rear deck that just does not thump as good as a re SE12;)

he is happy with the door speakers he just wants to add a sub.

i was thinking of getting a hi/low output converter and splicing the sub wires so that i could hook up his amp to the re se12.

has anyone tried this? how good would it sound ?

are there any other options?

does the factory amp have low level outputs?

would hooking the amp using a low level converter sound better than just hooking it up directly to the amplifier high level imputs?

ths is what i did with my first system in a lexus. i just wanted after market subs.so i disconnected the factory sub in the back just by the leads and got high/low level converter, it output the sound through rcas that went into the amp. really easy.

ive seen a jl audio cable that takes speaker leds and send the signal right to rca cables. thats another option.

which ever you do, you'll obviously need an aftermarket amp. you cant use the stock one. you'dd have to check if that car has low level ouput at the amp, i dont know for that car specifically.

when i had my system through low level converter it sounded pretty good. i wasnt really ever able to compare it. my friend had the same subs running at lower watts than i did and we sounded about the same, his sometimes sounded louder, but he had an aftermarket deck, and i was running everything on stock, so that was probably it. you'll get good sound from the high/level converter though. its really good for the ease and cost.

Good luck with that....had a Mercedes CLK 320 Cabriolet and never dared to touch the thing...it was so integrated that it wasn't worth the possible cost. Unless you can find a very reputable installer who knows about high end cars (none in my area I found out) I'd leave well enough alone.

Bah, just get a good quality oem integrator and install the sucker yourself. I've done both my Mercs with the Audiocontrol LC8i and the MTX RE-Q. Recently ordered the RF 3.Sixty.1 to try out. Hoping for a little better SQ.

My install turned out greater than I could have asked for.
