2000 Elantra Wall Build pt. 2

Ya foreals, But you know how this forum is. And what kind of kids the majority of them are and who they try to be over the internet.
Tell me about it. You have these little HS kids who think they know what the hell ther are talking abot and there are alot more who just go around trying to start shit.

Lot of work, but should be worth it once it's done.

One question: you traced out the support on 3/4" MDF, then sanded/shaped it, and then used it as a template to cut out with a router on 1/2" MDF. Why not just trace it onto the 1/2" MDF and cut it out oversized with a jigsaw since it didn't need to be perfect? Seems like it would have saved a lot of time...

I wanted to make the exact same shape as the opening that I cut out in my door panels. Once I got that shape I needed it to be a 1/2" larger on every side so by tracing over the shape I cut out using a roughter with a 1/2" tracer bit on it gave me the shap I needed. The reason why I used 3/4" thick template instead of 1/2" is because the tracer bit I used was 1/2" diameter and 5/8" long. If I were to take that bit and try to plunge into the 1/2" MDF using a 1/2" template I would have had to plundge through over half of the material inorder to get my tracer bit to be flush with the template. By using 3/4" MDF as my template I can set my tracer bit up flush with the template before I plundge into the material. This helps in reducing the roughter from jumping and messing up the pice I am trying to create as well as the template.

Now for as using a jigg saw for the pice, The sape of the support did matter in my case because I need it to fit the contours of the inner door panel for better support. If I were to just cut out an over sized pice and try to place it in there I would have spent more time and work trying to make sure that the center hole that I cut out for the speakers to mount if to be even. Once I had one cut out all I had to do was lay it on the other and trace it out with the roughter. The whole point of creating a template is so you can make multiple pice all the exact same shap and size. Once you have your jig made it only takes a few minutes to rought out all of your pices. Take the speaker baffles. It took about 10 mins to make the jig and another 5 mins cutting all 6 out.

Hope that helps anwser your question.

ok everyone I know it has been a few weeks on updates. With the holidays and bad wheather I have not had that much time. I did have a break in the wheather today so I did manage to get one of the doors wraped and ready glassing. Once I start the passenger side door I will take more photos of the process for ya.

This is the door panel brace that I made last time all molded into the door. I bondoed most of the back side of the door panel for strength.

Here is the speaker baffle mounted to the door panel and wraped. I first removed the factory vinel form the door and the window weather stip off the door. I then took some flease and glued it do the door panel to fit all the contures. After that I applied resion to harden up the flease. Next week I will be glassing and finnishing up this door panel.
