20 or 12 gauge shotgun?

Get the 12ga. If you're worried about home defense, use #6's or #8's, they're not going to travel far beyond a few walls. I find that the recoil of a 12 gauge isn't hard to handle at all. You will be much happier with the 12ga.

then your defeating the purpose of having a 12g...the 20g would give you more power....plus just guessing the price of shells is probally about double the cost of standard shells....
No you get more shot load out of a 12 meaning you put more lead on the target.

with the low recoil loads you have better control, faster follow up shots, less flash, less likely to penetrat multiple walls, and is more practical for indoor self defense application.

Plus you dont give up all the options you have with a 12 gauge. There are way more commercial loading options with 12 ga and more availability and the price is not much different.

a 12 gauge pump is the most versitle weapon made

#1 buck is the minimum recommended self deffense load from many LE ballistic testing gurus

#1?
Mines say 7.5 oz shot; 2.75 length.

Good or no good for self defense?

That is bird shot. Better then a rock but most likely wont make it to any vital organs to do any real damage, It would be one hell of a long ER visit

#000 buck is .35"diameter,

#00 buck is .33"dia,

#0 buck is .32"dia

#1 buck is .30 dia

#2 buck is .27 dia

#3 buck is .25

#4 buck is .24

7.5 birdshot = .095" diameter

of course the smaller the shot the more pellets you have

well lets see here as most have said go with the 12 gauge, you wont get much meat off of a squirrel after u shoot it but if ur lookin for a squirrel gun get a .22 with a small scope, as for the rabbits and pheasants it will do very well. For deer get a rifle barrel for the shotgun for better accuracy

I'm not trying to kill people here....just send them a clear message to get the fvck outta my house.

If I really wanted to, I have a box of 3.5" 00 Magnums next to my shotgun along with a box of bird shot and also a box of 150 grain .308's just in case.

A dead perp cant sue you

No this isn't about speaker wire.
Lookin to get a new shotgun to be used for the field use and deer. The gun will be a combo. I've heard that the 20 will do the job easily up to 125 yards. Prolly just goin to get a mossberg 500 combo
125 yards with a shotgun lol

Get a 12, extra 75 yards of accuracy and its worth it. I've got an Ithaca deerslayer (also has rifled barrel avail.) and a Browning Auto-5 12 gauge. I'm in love with both. I almost never use my Auto-5 light 20 gauge.
B.S. Flag goes here

20 is fine for deer, i got a h&r single shot break action 20 guage with a 12 guage blank barrel bored for a 20 guage. gun weights about 10 lbs, at 200 yards i am only droppin 7" and still holden within a 5" group. i'd like to see a 12 guage do that.
