2 x 4ohm DVC setup....

Hello, I was just wondering if there is a workaround to my wiring setup to get these 2 12" subs to run at 2ohm, or at least some pointers on getting the most power out of my amp with these.

I have 2 4ohm DVC infinity subs (300rms, 1200 peak) and a Fosgate Power 501BD amp (mono, 4ohm = 300rms, 2 ohm = 500rms).

Now, my problem is that I can wire one of my subs at 4 ohms or 2 ohms, but for both I can only do 4 ohm or 1 ohm with a traditional setup.

Should I just lose one of the subs and run the single at 4 ohm for a good match? I would like to run both at 2 ohms though if possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

KK

I'm not too sure... I don't even know if that's stable for this type of amp, and I can't seem to find any information on the net etc... hmmm.... Do you think that there is a possibility I can run these at 1 ohm stable?

Thanks

Nope, I mean 501bd. Do a quick run on a search engine and you'll find it. Oddly enough though it's not on the Fosgate website. I've checked that out myself ;P

it may run at 1ohm, but if it doesn't say it anywhere, i'm not sure about the "stable" part.

with one DVC 4 ohm sub you can only wire it to 2 ohms or 8 ohms. Seems like its time for a new amp. You can resell your current RF for a good price on here or ebay. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yea you're right... ****. Well it doesn't look like I have a proper match here. So I should be looking for something that runs at 1 ohm stable..... hmmm.... I wonder if this one would work though.... would it hurt in trying? I'm assuming that the amp would probably just power down if there was a problem yea?? I wouldn't be pumping these speakers extremely hard or anything....

It may kick into protection....or it may let out the magic smoke. As was mentioned...those amplifiers were not rated to be 1ohm stable. I had a 1501bd and asked about it's chances at 1ohm many moons ago, and the main concensus was that the amplifier does not like 1ohms loads very well. So, I'd recommend not trying it.

Are your subwoofers new or used? Depending on what model Infinity's you had, they may be available in SVC 4ohm configurations, which would allow you to run a pair at 2ohms. And if they are new, the store should allow you to exchange them.

Well fortunately (or unfortunately) I picked these babies (subs) up for $19 u.s. each, and yes they are used. So I might as well sell them off for the same price or around the same price I snagged them for and pick up some subs that will run better with this amp. Like I said before, I won't be pumping them extremely hard, I just grabbed them because the price was so low. Well I guess I'm back to sub hunting....

Thanks everyone for the input/help.

Hmmm.... you may be onto something... since I can run the single sub at 4 ohms (300rms) the amp will pump out 300rms at 4 ohms.... this may be the perfect match for a single sub. I'm not getting the full potential of my amp, but maybe that would be just perfect.

Ok... so now onto another debate then. What kind of enclosure should I be looking at if I want some nice deep sounding clear bass with the single 12".

I'm assuming that a fully sealed box will give me more punch.... but something that's ported will give me more power (seemingly that is).

Any recommendations on a really great sounding single 12" enclosure for this sub? I don't want sloppy sounding bass... I want it sounding punchy but still with some great earth shaking bottom end etc....

Thanks again guys.... lovin' this forum ;P
