2 Subs 1 Amp Question

okay, my cousin just gave me a type x and it hits fairly hard with that amp.. soo out of the 1200 watts max power, only 500 watts goes into this sub? i dont understand what rms is

well it says max power: 1200w (2ohms).. and i have 1 type x (4ohm + 4ohm) hooked up like this http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp?submitted=true&woofer_qty=1&woofer_imp=4 does this mean i will get the whole 1200 watts goin into this sub?
rms ratings are what you need to focus on. forget the max and forget whomever told you to look at them. to match speakers and amps you need to look at the rms ratings. that amp will only produce 200 usable watts/channel

max watts are just a fancy number companies use to make their amps look good. companies like sony plaster "1200 WATTS MAX!!!" all over their product so people like you will think they actually put out 1200 watts.

your amp puts out 200 watts per channel, 500 watts bridged. end of story. that amp would put out just enough power for one type r.

yea i kinda traded my 2 type r's for a type x in the middle of this forum.. sorry for the confusion.. but i have 500 rms going into it and it says it needs 1000 but it still works. am i damaging anything?

You'll damage it if you push the amp to hard trying to make it push the sub. That will make it clip and distort and that's what is bad for subs.

If you want a cheap amp that does 1000 watts @ 2 ohms look into a kenwood and they are cea-2006 compliant, That means the numbers aren't way over inflated.. I have one of the kenwood kac amps and it has never failed me. It was my first amp so went through all kinds of experiments, Max gain + bass boost on low voltage and stuff and is still kicking. Plus they are cheap enough to be good to learn about gains and stuff with so if you blow it no biggie.

Here is one for 169.00
