2 sub spl

here's my 3 cents
I am looking for opinions on what 2 subs to get if I want to hit some really high spl numbers when turned up, but will still be usable as a daily driver when turned down. I was thinking some A's or XXX or mabey some juggernuats or something. I am limited to the space in the trunk of my 1997 ford taurus.

ft^3 not know right now.

Budget about $900 - $1200 by end of the summer.

Size will be limited by space in trunk soo probalbely nothing bigger than the 15 mark.

power will be determined by the subs and whats left of my budget.

The biggest Alt I could find for my car was a 115 amp. But their is porbably bigger out their.

Would like to compete but this is the same car I drive to school and work.

Seats fold down but people sit their. Not hatch.

all opinions welcomed.

If I remember right, there's quite a bit of room in the trunk of a Taurus! I think you're on the right track with some XXX's. I wouldn't worry too much about alternator output if you use a Class D amplifier(s). If you're going for big SPL though remeber that bass is essentially cone area x excursion. So sometimes several cheaper, yet decent woofers in a good installation can get you there easier than a couple of monsters. RESPL's lower lines have some good choices as many will attest too. One main thing is to spend time experimenting with enclosures until you find a port tuning frequency that matches your car's acoustics. This can take a while, but makes a huge impact on spl. I'd ask around if anyone here has a computer program capable of helping you work on that. Just my .02$

hmm if i was you on that budget i would go with a 12" idmax sub with an mtx 81000d amp in a wave ported box

the reason why i say this is the idmax has amazing sq and good spl, there about $350 brand new and you can get an mtx 81000d used for $250 off ebay

if you want to win competitions you might have to spend more than your budget

i used to be an spl freak but now im more of an SQ freak

I just do local comps. where I live Car audio is not catching on to fast. I can easily hang with the 2 K's I have now in a box ported to 30 hz. But I want to dominate.

Put it this way 1st=$30 and a gas card based on how many people enter. Normaly about $5 to enter and about 15 people enter. Biggest comp is 3 RF H2 that do well And 12" L7 installed buy an idiot who put it in a to small sealed box and uses 2 sony amps off of ebay. But I would like to get into some bigger comps later.

Hey that guy does sound like an idiot with the sony xplod stuff but as you said if he can "hang" with the others hes doing something right. One thing i've learned is never lower your guard for scrap jobs. Some people just do what works...not whats pretty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Im re-doing my system also as we speak and im going to run 2 IDMax D4 12" with a fosgate 1100a2 running 1400 watts RMS, thats still underpowering those speakers but its enough not to hurt it. I've only heard good things about these subs so i have to try it myself and see how they actually perform. Maybe trade off that 1100a2 in the future for an amp that runs higher #'s.

While the IDMAX's are up top on my favourite woofers list, I don't think I'd choose them in this particular situation.

Rather, I think the XXX's you mentioned initially would be a solid choice and seem to fit your description best. Can daily drive them, and are able to achieve a decent number on the meter.

Inciminator Audio Death Penalty

RE XXX

Adire Brahma

etc

Kicker L5's and L7's, as well as Rockford Fosgate's Power HX2 series have been known to get pretty loud --- can use them daily of course too.

There are a lot of options here.

so do ID Max subs do pretty good decibel #'s? with my setup 2, 12" D4 and a fosgate 1100a2 what can i expect to get on the meter? I think im convinced to atleast persue the XXX everyone is talking about.

Too many variables to give you a number. Depends on the box, car, meter, mic placement, etc etc etc.

IDMAX's hold their own in SPL, too ... they do get fairly loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Looks like you've got an SS, i've got a T/a '01 to be exact, im just racking my brain deciding if i want id max's or a couple XXX's or another high end brand....i wish i could hear them all, i have an assload of highs and mids so all i need is low bass, i've got kicker RMB8's in the back seat there 8" but i cut them out and they sound like subs you should put a set in your SS depending on what you have in the back seat now

I think two 15" XXXs would have you doing some serious dominating untill people wised up.

Then again, they might not let you compete if you are simply too good, it would just be rediculously unfair...

You could also do some sort of swappable port system, and have good sq when you want, and sweet spl when you need it.

Incriminators would also definatly dominate, but I don't think they would have the SQ you would want for a DD.

Just a thought here. If I decided to go pure SPL on my budget what would be a good choice. 98% sure I won't.

I should also Mention the Xplod idiot isonly using like 8 gauge wire from Wal-mart as a power cable from the batt. And that box is realy realy small. Like magnet touches back small
