2 ported or 4 sealed?

Generally speaking..will 4 sealed subs produce more bass than 2 ported subs? I havent had any sealed systems yet because I like the low end and boom that ported systems provide.(SPL) Can I get that with more woofers sealed vs. 2 ported.

The rule on that is ported is always better. Never seal anything!

Thanks fellas. Guess Ill be staying ported. The only question now is should I upgrade to 15''s. 12's just dont do it for me anymore.

so not true, there are plenty of subs that would do better sealed... it just depends on how the sub was designed, also clarify your definition of loud... a ported can be made so that 1 blows 3 out of the water, but to do so would usually mean you are burping it at a specific frequency... the box will peak highly at that frequency making the design VERY impractical for a daily listening system (because only a few frequencies will be much louder than the others)

so in my opinion, it largly depends on music preferance, if most of your songs have similar bass ranges, you should be great with a ported, but if (like me) your preferances include everything from rap to classical, sealed is most likely going to do you better, at the sacrafice of some volume...

again (in my opinion) technically the 2 ported have the potential to blow 4 sealed away but it's going to be hard to do it while mantaining a comparably flat responce and soud quality

Thanks. Anyone know of a site that will give me box building plans. I tried a few but while entering the sub specs it got a little confusing. I guess what im looking for is something where I can input the size box I want(LxWxH), the number and size of subs, and type of box(sealed or ported), what I want it tuned to, and it gives me the instructions and dimensions of all the boards. Is that too broad? In the past Ive only used prefab boxes but Im hearing great stuff about custom boxes that make almost any sub sound great if its built right. I want one of those!!!
