2 ohm or 4 ohm sub?

I'm still pretty new to car audio but I feel like I'm drinking from a fire hose as I read through this forum and the12volt.com. My question is how important is it to have a 2 ohm or 4 ohm sub?

I'm looking at either a RE SE10D2 or RE SE10D4 sub. For an amp, I'm looking at a Audiopipe 15001D and plan to run it @ 4 ohms for 600rms.

Should I get the 2 ohm sub and wire it in series to get 4 ohms? Any suggestions appreciated. Also, if anyone has other ideas, they're also welcome but I'm looking to stay within the $300 range.

Thanks!

I guess this should be moved to the sub or amp section. Sorry

if you want to have your amp running at 4ohm with only one sub your only option is the duel 2 ohm sub. but y do you want to run at 4 ohms you could put 1500w to it if you wire it to 1 ohm.

That's what I was thinking but I'm still pretty ignorant to a lot of this stuff. Also, the rms of the RE is 600 which is what the amp is rated for at 4 ohm. I've been told that the amp will run cooler, with lower distortion, and improved damping factor when run at 4 ohm. That's why I'd prefer to run it at 4 ohms. Thanks!

2 ohm subs are louder than 4 ohm subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
Really. That's good to know. What's the advantage to a 4 ohm sub then?
It might be good to know if it were true. I guess Pat is trying to get to the point that on the same amp a 2 ohm sub will PROBABLY get more power than a 4 ohm sub. But that's not always the case. Besides, it's not a function of the sub, it's a function of the amp.

The fact of the matter is that assuming the same power, a 2 ohm sub and a 4 ohm sub of the same model and in the same enclosure perform nearly identically.
