but where does thermal power handling constitute the end-all be-all of a speker?

i agree, ID rates their equipment at what it should be rated. meaning, at 1000w or more, the idmax can not handle that much power. so why would you say that an IDmax can not handle 1000w? well, that is the maximum top rated amount of thermal energy it is able to dissapate.

now add on a little clipping from the amp, or somone *** who turns your headunit up, or just plain playing it long enough for the coil to heat up to where it could break.

its not image dynamics' fault for your shortcommings. you bought it, you broke it, your problem. maybe if you had set it to some where in the middle of its rated thermal energy dissapation, than right at the top, the speaker would have lasted longer.

here is an anology. the speedlimit is 65mph. your corvette can go 200mph, do you drive it at 190 all day long?

no, because if you did, the corvette would prolly come to the same fate as the idmax did. i run lots of image dynamics gear, it was happenstance that i ended up using their drivers, just the right price at the right time.

but stating that ID sells junk because in your installation a speaker broke, is not a reason to tell everyone on the planet they sell worthless equipment.

on top of wich, you also need to learn to use coherent english, because i can hardly understand anything that has been spewing forth from your twisted little mind.

Maybe if they did we wouldn't have been having this argument. 1000 watts is a big overrated figure, if it reach peak efficiency at certain watts lol. So I guess its my fault because it blew up and I had everything upside down. LOL! I understand what you heifers are saying. Idmax reaching efficiency at less then 1000 watts. But why didn't they rate it lower where it reaches peak efficiency? Not sure whats so hard to understand. Or put a sign subwoofer will blow up if given 1000 watts. LOL!

just a little lesson, efficency is not a form of power handling. just because a woofer can handle 1000w does not mean its efficent, and vice versa. a woofer is efficent when it takes a SMALL amount of power to get loud. just because - depending on box size ect - a idmax can get to full excursion at 500w does not mean its a piece of crap, power handling is a thermal and mechanical representation. meanging the IDMax can dissapate 1000w of heat, and no more. it means that with 1000w, the physical limit of softpart movement will have been reached.

this does not indicate a weak or bad driver. in fact, the less power sent to a driver to attain the highest spl out of a driver is a GOOD THING.

using 2000w on a subwoofer is rediclious and inneficent. i cant comprehend why you would want to do something like this unless you are a bass freak who wants tons of SPL.

i dunno. you are ignorant about how speakers work and you refuse to admit it.
