Just have to put this out there. We offer those Zapco amps with a warranty. They're not on our web site at this time so I understand it's less convenient to order. Normally I sell all or big parts of systems rather than single items.
Trumpet, I've started to think about changing out my Arc Audio KS900.6. One of the amps I probably will be considering is the Zapco ST-5X II. One of the specs I think is important to me is damping factor. My KS900.6 has a very high damping factor, which was one reason I bought it. I'm also considering Alpine's PDX-V9. Their damping factor number is pretty darn good. Zapco doesn't publish a damping factor for their amps. I emailed them a week ago asking them the damping factor on the ST-5X II, but to know surprise (their customer service has a lot to be desired) they have not responded back to me. So, since you seem to be an authorized dealer, I thought I'd ask you. Maybe you would know or maybe you can get in touch with someone at Zapco and ask them what the damping factor is for the ST-5X II. If you don't know the answer and are uncomfortable asking the good people at Zapco, then please don't. I'd just thought I'd ask and see what happens. Oh, I am also considering the Arc Audio XDi 850.5. I don't know it's damping factor, but I do know that if I call them, they will actually answer the phone and will give me an answer to my damping factor question (that's how I got the damping factor number for my KS900.6).

Damping factor is pretty much useless.
I figured someone would chime in saying damping factor was a "non-factor". It's just one of the many specs I look at when shopping for an amp. But, what I've read about damping factor says damping factor should be something to be considered. Why do you say damping factor is useless?

Because real test have shown it not to matter or even be easily measured until it's in the single digits. Anything over 50 is fine.

Okay, I did some additional reading that supports your view. Let me ask you this, if you will. My Arc Audio KS900.6 is an outstanding amp. I love it. Drums sound absolutely amazing on this amp. Arc told me the damping factor was 800. I am considering changing it out because it is old and starting to have issues. I am considering other 5-channel amps, but in the meantime I have an unused Eclipse EA4000 that I am thinking of using until I get a new 5-channel amp. The damping factor for the Eclipse is >50. That's a huge difference from the KS900.6's damping factor of 800. Do you think I will hear a difference in the tightness of the bass between the two amps (with such a huge difference in damping factor)?

The only difference will come down to power. As long as both are set clean they will sound the same. Output will be different and output can at times make it sound different. In terms of dynamics, headroom, and interior artifacts, panel vibration, reflections.

I'll see what I can do.
