2 assassin 12s VS 1 ???? 12in sub

limited space in the back of my dodge truck means if i want a ported enclosure, then i need to go from two subs to 1.. i currently have 2 assassin 12s in a sealed box 1.2 cu ft per chamber..

i dont need it to get any louder, just want it to hit lower.

what single 12 sub for 200$ or less will be able to be as loud as the 2 i have, and get lower in a box no bigger then 2.4 cu ft total..

considering

aa arsenal 12

diamond D612D2

or what u might suggest

port a single 12" RL-P in a 1.5 ft^3 ~ 34hz box. that shouldn't take up too much room and i would be willing to bet it'd get louder than the sealed assassins...

in terms of lower, that is music dependant. if you listen to rap, the ported setup may or may not win out... try it out hehe

that is a little higher price then i am looking for.. but i might go for it, but it needs to work with the x600.1 amp i am gonna use with it.. the D6 and the arsenal both would work good power wise which is why i was lookin at them.. how much power RMS does a rl-p 12 need to perform well..

Why dont you try one assassin 12 in 2 cubes tuned to 28hz? Worth a try, wood isnt expensive. 20 bucks and you can find out. Then you only have to sell one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If you STILL dont like it, the Arsenal along with most 12s are a direct drop in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yeah, you could probably push the single assassin to nearly 500W (set gains with DMM) and get close to the same output as dual 12's sealed, but with more low end.

i mocked it up in winisd and i was going to post the response graph, but somehow i closed winisd and didn't save. if you're interested maybe i'll redo it and post it for you.

well, i am gonna buy some mdf tomorrow and get started. i have modified my plans to 2.0 cu ft.. if i use 3/8in thick hd cardboard tubing 3" or 4"diameter.. how long should i make the port?

what are the port dimensions (of the opening)?

EDIT: nevermind it's a round port

about 14" long for a 4" dia. port. (32Hz) but that's only 12.5 in^2 of port area, you probably should have twice that. with 2, 4" ports that's 30" each to get tuned to 32Hz

i'd go with a 2" wide slot port (as tall as the enclosure) and use a 90 degree bend (along the side and back walls) to get the length you need.

the box i have designed is just not going to accomodate a slot port.. i am wanting to use 4" tubing, so i can essentially bring it out and around the back side.. kinda hard to explain, but i can put 1 or 2 tube ports in and route them behind the box and out the sides, no prblem... or i could make the box the full 2.4 cu ft and then figure out some sort of slot port, but witht the box not being square it woulf be very tough.. i could even put the tube port inside the box provided i make it the full 2.4 cu ft.. i am just not sure which way to try, or how long to make the tube or tubes..

here is a pic of the box design..

the idea is i am just gonna put one sub in it.. so there is the 2.4 cu ft.. theni was gonna run a 4in tube out the back center, then 90it and come down the back side to the side of the box.. but i could easily put a tubular port inside instead.. but i think a slot would be too difficult to get right. i am also thinking i could put 1 or two tube ports in the front face and then 90 them inside and extend them to the proper length.. any ideas appreciated..

i would just modify the box i have already made, cept if it doesnt sound good, i want to be able to go right back to this one..

is it just me or does the box in that pic look a lot shorter than the box in your avatar?

is your current box (the one in your avatar) a combined chamber?

if it's combined, i think i have any easy solution:

take out one of the drivers

cut out a piece of wood to cover the driver cutout

cut two 4" round holes the that piece of wood

using 90 degree elbows, put in two 4" dia round ports:

30" long (each) for 32 Hz tuning

35" long (each) for 30 Hz tuning

that's assuming your box was actually 2.4 cu ft net before, now it'll be about 1.96 cu ft (net) after port displacement.

hopefully you can fit those ports in your box! good luck.

-thats exactly what i needed to know..

same box in box pics, the avatar is just sitting up on the back side so as to see the subs.. (they downfire)

thanks for doing the math.. i may not finish it today, but i will let you know how it turns out..

i am not going to modify the current box, i am gonna build a new one.. just in case.. : )

for me, the d6 did not get as low as i had hoped. great sq nonetheless. i think that arsenal will do you good due to pricing and i heard it's very close to the rl-p anyway.
