Before you flame, I searched for this and found nothing. I found 12" R vs 12" Kicker and 15" vs 15", but nothing came up for this comparison.

Anyway, I was leaning towards the Alpines, but I heard 2 12" CompVR's in a friends car and they sounded pretty good. Which would you recommend for daily use, as well as advantages and disadvantages for each; I usually listen to rap.

(2) 12" Alpine Type-R

(2) 15" Kicker CompVR

(3) 12" Kicker CompVR

I've only ever had Kicker, and that's what most people around here have, so I really have nothing to compare with. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

well ive had CVRs and type Rs both 12s and the type Rs blow the cvrs out of the water in loudness. but i am running double the power to the Rs than i ran to the CVRs. i just go with type Rs.both 4.0 cubes ported box to 33hz.

Although wouldn't it make a difference if the CVR's were 15"s or 3x 12"s?

well if you want to put the 15s in a good ported box you may have some trouble with our trunks. unless you want take up the whole trunk. same with the three 12s ported.

I don't mind taking up the whole trunk, as long as it looks (and sounds) good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

alright, what much power can the CVR 15s handle? and when you say sounded good about your friends did you mean loud or about the sound quality. do you want your subs to get loud or you want sound quality?

SPL is more what I'm going for- I usually only listen to rap. SQL is nice, but not 100% necessary for me. I'm trying to achieve more of the really low and loud notes.

Going with the RMS ratings, they are as follows:

(2) 12" Alpine Type-R = 1000w

(2) 15" Kicker CompVR = 1000w

(3) 12" Kicker CompVR = 1200w

And I know that the Alpines can take more than 500w each- just about everyone on this forum has stated that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif However, I don't know much about the CompVR's, so I don't know how over/under-rated they are.

well with the same amount of power the 15s should get louder because of more cone area. but that is assuming the same amp and both boxes built to specs of the subs.
