1999 Silverado Alpine Build

Hope, I put the door panels back on and the difference in sound from now and before was night and day, there is a lot more bass coming out of the front speakers. I don't plan on sealing up the big gap in the front door as I'm happy with the way it sounds now, and the door is uneven so it would be hard to get metal to form to that spot. The only downside is, is my speakers sound like crap, or at least they do now. There never was much if any bass coming out of the front kenwoods, and I think that now that you can hear the bass they just don't sound good. They are probably 3-4 years old and are 45rms(I think) so they just don't sound very good. Anyways I'm leaving them in for a while because I'm tired of fiddling with the front doors and I don't have the money for new front speakers. I'm hoping that the subs will sort of drown out the ugly noise coming from the front speakers.

Alright well tomorrow is the big day, the bed comes off and I start wire wheeling for the paint! If all goes according to plan, I'll have it done by the end of the weekend. It will be a very long weekend, I have work Friday through Sunday working early mornings. I plan on working on it after work.

What do you mean crossover points? And I adjusted the gain and everyting to try and make it sound better. I will be mounting the amp rack this weekend so I will fiddle with the amp settings then.

Well the bed is off!, so the real stuff begins!

Amps all mounted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/happydance.gif.a963168fea27d8453c3ec467ddcf9e1c.gif, I have to get the bed back on my truck so that I can drive it before I work on the rear speakers.

Got the alarm sirens all wired up with the strobe lights, it wasn't too confusing, just a mess of wires under the dash.

Eventually I plan on running all the wires to the alarm in hidden places and getting a backup battery, along with a glass break sensor.

I got the back part of the frame painted today, it turned out pretty nice.

Well I've been busy which is why I haven't posted in a while, not that many are paying much attention, but here is what I have completed.

Amps all done, minus tuning them.

Speakers both mounted, and here is the flush mount we did on the doors with the tweeters, sort of cut the hole too big on one of them but we were able to fix it so that it looked good.

So I have a dilemma, after hooking everything up and blasting some music through the speakers, I came to the conclusion that the front speakers just don't sound good, they sound like they are blown, if the bass on the head unit is turned up past zero they don't sound good at all. So I'm hoping that when I get the subs they will sort of drown out the crappy bass coming from the front speakers. They are cheap kenwoods that I believe are 45rms running off 100rms, and are also 3-4 years old. I'm not sure what to get, I need 6.5" speakers for the front eventually and don't know what kind to get. Being that I'm on a budget, I need to spend as little as possible, would not like to spend over 100, (ebay, amazon, cheapest website you can find). Now since I have a pdx 4.100 which is 100rms for each channel would it be best to get 100rms speakers? The rear speakers I have are 100rms and sound great! Also I would like to go with component speakers because I like that setup more and think they sound better. So any suggestions would be great. One last note, they need to be good quality speakers, not ones that will blow in a year from now.

A lot of people happy with MB quartz on a budget. I like BA Boston Accoustics or ya could stick with alpine alpine makes some decent speakers too.

Oh and for some reason I really like the way those components look, very flush and clean looking. Good Job glad you're taking your time with the build, I think you're gonna love the end result.

i'd suggest giving those speakers a try. I was going to use those but I ended up going a different direction.

Either way this build is great. I like how you just took the bed off the truck. That's awesome lol.
Ya I think I forgot to take a picture, but you can see them on the amp rack, I sent some carrriage bolts threw the back wall and there is no way to get a wrench on the outside of the wall if the bed is on. So I took it off lol. It's on now, more pictures to come tomorrow, oh and I made some minor modifications that made a big difference in it's looks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

nice, I can't wait!! Looks like you're getting a lot more done then me, stuff's going kinda slow.

There was no need to bolt to the rear wall as you did. That piece directly under the rear window that is about 1 1/2" further out attached to the back wall where the speaker wire runs across from the pass side to the drivers side....... All you had to do was screw the amp rack to that piece. That's what I did and there's no way in he!l you'll be able to get my amprack out. Same with my sub box, it's pressure fit when the seat is down, but as easy as it is to raise the rear seat, there's 2 straps attached to the box that hold it in place, but after that, yea it's easy to get, but it weighs in at over 100lbs and would take 2 people to get it out and there's no way they'll get far with it either.
