Well, it wouldnt be the end of the world if i cant do this because this setup will only be for like a month and a half, but i just could not figure out how the factory deck come out. I removed the tape player and there is no clips of any kind. The wires run directly into the tape player.

I thought it would be different with the radio, but it is the exact same. The only thing i could figure is to just cut the wires, but i didnt want to do that without a little advice first.

SO... How do you successfully remove the factory audio equipment?

Also, after taking out the tape player, where the cd player should go, the cd player is like an inch and a half too deep so i dont understnd how the dash kit would work...

Are there "shallow mount" cd players?? haha i dont think so but who know.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

i understand that, but my deck would still be too deep i think. I am having a tougher time figuring out how to remove the factory radio. I have it "out" but the wires go directly into the unit so there isnt a clip or seomthing that a wiring harness could connect to.

most gm dash kits that i know of have a flush mount style bracket and one that has about 1.5" extention built in.

you will need the one that has the extention in it. you can also get a wire harness adaptor so you will not have to cut the factory wires.

ok thanks for the help! can you explain the wire harness adaptor at all?

it will come in a "kit" that will have the plug to match your factory wire harness and all you would have to do is connect/splice your new head unit wires to it.

the wires that connect to your hu will be the same colors as the wires on your head unit.

that sounds like a normal wiring harness which would be awesome, but there is no clip or anything on the factory HU there are wires wrapped up in some shrink wrap type stuff that leads directly to the interior of the factory radio. i cant just unplug the wires and plug them into the wiring kit.

the truck is similar to my moms 93 chevy suburban. there was an external brain close to the floor like top right of the gas pedal in that area. and u gotta send the wires disconecting the brain and bringing the wires from the radio control wire harness to the casette side.

then its normal harnes plug in... thats what i remember from 8th grade and they told me what they did to my moms car.

you can always go to the local shop for help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Take the screws out form under the dash that hold the little trim piece under the steering column look to right above the gas pedal there will be a external box.Remove three 7mm screws that secure it.Disconnect the wires and antenna.I know metra parts so the harness is a 70-1858 the antenna adapter is 40-gm10 and the dash kit is a 99-3000,they have blue/black and other colors that match.Their dash kits have a spacer to fit the radio into the dash.

Awesome. now that makes perfect sense. I am starting my work week though so i probably wont be able to mess with it until monday.

There is also a pocket piece that goes where the factory radio went. Its a 88-00-3001. Its not necessary but gives you some space.you can also look at the metra products online at metraonline.com they have a search by vehicle gives you pics of the parts and instructions if needed.Have fun with it its not that bad
