17yr old noob! bought a sub..wanna make my own box!

exactly what I did, and now I regret it and am currently saving for a new system.
2 MTX 10'' Roadmasters ain't cuttin it ;( sigh

Yeah dude, please do research before you buy anything, or you will end up wasting your money as I did.
Same here...I got a bazooka tube... haha

you should be able to find a decent 200-400 RMS amp for only 100 bucks or less.. (dont buy from a retail store.. shop online)
a sealed box will be fine. ported will be louder but for now just go with sealed because they are much easier to build and its harder to mess things up with a decent sealed box.. plus they sound better imo.

if you can do simple math you can build a decent sealed box. find out what sony recommends for their 10 inch subs and use 3/4" MDF to build it.

get a line output converter and you can use your stock radio.
Good advice.

Just wanted to add, what you will be happy with also depends a lot on what type of music you listen too. IMO, an average 10" does not go well with rap/pop, it's OK for rock and it would be ideal for country/classical (or maybe it's just ideal for old farts????? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif ).

Also if you are going to try to make it work for rap, I'd probably bite the bullet and attempt a ported box. Just my opinion, but a sealed 10" doesn't "boom" a whole lot.

The music that it does well with is more about the properties of the enclosure than the properties of the driver. As you said you listen to more rap, are you looking for more lowend, loudness? I would reccomend a ported box around 33 hertz as that sounds good to me for the drivers I use.

This is a free box calculator using the specs for the sub. You can get better results, but they typically aren't free. I have had good experiences with the aforementioned tool.

good luck!

If you could maybe use proper grammer I would at least tell you that Xplodes ****. But thats about all I know.
Oh ya, ported is better.. LOL
If you're going to criticize someone's "grammer," you should at least try to spell grammar correctly.

iirc....90% install, 5% equipment, 5% beer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.
If you want to do an exceptional job, I would recommend 15% beer.

Thus:

90% install, 5% equipment, 15% beer = 110% total

Hint: Go for Quality not quantity, so don't cheap out on the beer.
