150 + db with jbl W15GTi MKII?

I currently have 2 15"s in a wall on 4kw, on a TL on the dash on music or around 43hz i am right at 149.8db. and i am a n00b at building boxes compared to some of the pro's on here. Ive only built about 6 or 7, this being the biggest yet (9 cf). 150 is no easy task for a "daily" system. "fart boxes" are COMPLETELY different. I can play 147db all day long without burning anything up, just depends on what your goal is.

are you looking for 150db under 45hz in a daily box? or at 70hz in a fart box? I dont personally think those subs can do that, not with just 2. your looking at 2kw+ per sub and those are not built to handle that much daily.

as an example, this past weekend at a show i went up against a tundra with 4 12" GTI's in a wall, he was doing 146's with windows down. great sounding subs, but i dont think they are what YOU are looking for if your giong for 150db

Exactly what I was thinking, they are 100% SQ oriented subs. If you want something that sounds good and is loud try the Fi Q or SSA Icon.
The gtis do sound good, and can get loud. It wouldnt be wise moving to any of the subs you mentioned.. He is looking for spl, so something along the lines of dd9500s, hdc3, btl,bl, ect..

QUICK!!!

Someone please contact this guy and tell him the GTi's cannot get loud!!

An extreme example of course, but please do not make generalized statements without some kind of proof to back up what you are saying.

4 GTi MKII 15's with a sundown 1500D on each in a 99 Ford Expedition burps a 153.1 at 44 Hz and plays 148-150.5 with most rap music. Here’s the setup:

I am defiantely not hating on them.. I love the gtis infact, and already said they can get loud, but if I were looking for spl, they wouldn't be my choice of subs.

Daily listening 150+ on music your gonna need 3-5k watts. Depending on how well the box is built.

Truth, a local had a pair in his Tahoe off of a Memphis 4kw in 8 cubes with a daily tune, did 151.x on an AC.

It takes a good box and a lot of power to do it with the GTi's, but they sound really, really, really good doing it.

For that much cone area, power, and a WALL, that is NOT a score i would be bragging about.

A teammate had 4x 15's NO WALL doing 155+ on music.

For those that say this is an 100% SQ sub then you really don't know what your talking about....show me a 100% SQ sub that can take burps of 5k + and I'll show you a sub that's NOT a 100% SQ sub! Oh FYI wired @ 1.5ohms the SAZ3000D is doing about 2200watts so in the above picture that's bout 1100w per driver posting 150+ on the term mic......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D:D

Taz, I love that install....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D:D

I love you JBL guys, but sometimes you get a little carried away. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Haters? The closest thing to 'hate' on JBL in this thread is people mentioning the GTi is not an SPL oriented sub. Even if you disagree, I find it a stretch to call it hate... dont you? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Second, Im not one of the opinion the GTi is strictly a SQ sub. Preposterous really, considering its design. But are we to believe these SQL beauties will hold up to the likes of a DD9500, BTL, MT, etc in the lanes? Showing us wall builds that hit over 150 is cool, but it doesn't really prove its the sub for this guy. Where has he even mentioned SQ? He has actually indicated just the opposite, that he is willing to change subs to reach that arbitrary 150db mark. *shrug*

The OP appears to be a relative noob, and you guys are arguing over whether or not he could eek out a 150 from his equipment with just the right install. I dont think he has said anything about wanting to build a wall has he? Again instead of trying to get him to build an extensive enclosure/wall to eek out a 150 (maybe), he'd probably be better off just putting one or two DD9500's in a small ported box with external aero's and have at it. To name one example. Once he tires of a fart box, then he might want to invest the effort in a massive SQL build that would exceed 150 while maintaining a more reasonable frequency response.

yes i am not really wanting to build a wall seeing as this is a daily driver,

i did a 141.6 in a 8 cu. ft box and i love how they sound but if i can get in the 150 mark without building a wall i'll do wat it takes

That's fine and dandy! Your teammate also had 4 DD 9515's with a zx 2500.1 on each one. All of which was in a Ford Escape. Ring a bell!

I don't really give a **** what you say. Anytime you are in and around the 150 mark with a setup that does not have a gazillion speakers, I believe the right to brag does exist. To each his own really!

Look for different subs.. Youre already at a disadvantage meeting that mark if You try doing that with the jbls..
