I have a friend who is wanting to upgrade his system.

Room is somewhat of an issue in his trunk;

He's looking for 4 10s vented or 4 12s sealed.

Yes you may be thinking, "wtf space issue? 4 12s?"

That pops up another question:

What sub would you reccomend him for 400 rms and:

10" - must be 1 cu ft vented

-or-

12" - must be 1 cu ft sealed

He's not interest in sq; he just wants to be loud.

2 12" vented in the correct enclosure(2cuft/driver) will be much better than either of your choices

um not really cause even though 2 12's ported may get just as loud or louder then 4 12's between 30 to 50 hz the four 12's will have more usable bass output below and above that range. So if u have a big car with a lot of space the 4 12's will blend better with ure front stage and get lower then the 2 12's ported while still being about as loud.

you are telling me that my 2 10's are not as loud as other setups in the low 30's and below just because I only have 2?

and he said he wanted LOUD!!!

I know type R's are reliable subs for the money.

Alpine suggests 1 cu ft sealed for a 12"

Has anyone here had experience with the 12"s that could chime in?

Thats not what I said. I said that 4 12's will have a flatter response and be just as loud as the 2 ported. I have 2 12's ported and while it does get as loud or louder then 4 12's the 4 have a better high frequency response and will be a lil louder under 30hz
