127.8 hrtz!!!!!!! first budget build.

So because I know that enclosure tuning is personal preference and doesn't have much to do with "the design of the subwoofer" then I am a douchebag? Ok. It doesn't change the fact that Dr. Subwoofer said the same thing about 30hz. lol
If his personal preference is 40hz tuning don't you think he might be better served by another sub? 32hz is suggested for these subs for a reason.

Get a hold of DC Creations. He has extensive experience with Obsidian subwoofers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

OP does not have much of a preference built up yet. He has had little experience with audio. So my suggestion is to get something built right and get the full potential out of his setup before he just tosses thing to the side or tries to cram things in that limited space that won't work out correctly.

Think of it this way. Going with a new enclosure with that setup will allow him to learn what takes many a very long time to understand. The enclosure is a vital part of the performance of the substage. Almost more so then product used.

Besides, the Obsidian subs are very well rounded and do very well for any music.

Not getting over 130db with a 15 and 1k at 40hz sounds like his coils are out of phase . Im sure a new box would help but even a poor box should be mid to high 130's

I like the part that I put in bold. Very well said and people need to really read and understand that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

its supposedly tuned at 34.7 but we did some burps on it and it is loudest at 40 hertz. so does that mean its tuned to 40 hertz? and yes i am going to build another box tuned to either 34 or 32 hertz I'm leaning towards 32. I'm going to try to get 3 cubes outta my trunk. I'm going to have pro rabbit or RAM or a pro design or build me a box.

There are several issues.

Your enclosure is to small(was never correctly designed)

I would bet your tuning is not correct(the designer was not sure on anything he did when he posted)

Every car out there peeks at a different level. This should be considered when designing the enclosure but most everyone never does. They also do not take into consideration the acoustical values of the car.

The ports I'm talking about are precision ports. They are a round flared port. They displace less volume then a slot port in most cases. In your case, there are several ways to go about designing/building the enclosure to make it work better for your application.

127.8 on that setup?

i've metered on dash at the local shop with 1 jl12w3v4 on 300watts at 135.8 with a 1.4cu ported at 32hz in the trunk of an chevy impala 2003..

might want to recheck ur setup man something is completely missed there... i'm running all stock elect. and was on 4g wire.
