1200 watts or 340 watts?

im starting the first phase of pimping out my car whitch is getting the first amp whitch is a 1200 watt mono Jbl amp but i dont have the speakers i want yet currently i have 2 sont 10's hookey up to a jensen amp (60 watts per channel lol) i cant brige it because i only have a 200 watt amp kit imj gonna be upgrading to a either 1400 or 1600 kit (depends if i can get 4 guage wire back there) so i should be able to brige it 340 watts total my speakers can handel 700 peak and like 250 rms so 1200 sound hella over powered i guess i can trun it down hella low but still witch would be better so that i dont blow them out 340 or 1200 truned down?
