1000 RMS Subwoofer

Hey guys I am about to buy a hifonics 1606d amp and I am looking for a subwoofer to go along with it. I am putting a box up on the backseat of my extended cab truck. I want to it to be pretty square so it will only take up one seat. I am looking at about 2 ft^3. I really dont know what this amp can push considering everyone says their rms ratings are fake. I dont think I want it to run at 1ohm either since I heard they will blow a lot easier. So I think getting a dvc 4ohm sub that can handle around 1000rms would be ideal. I have looked at a couple of subs that are in this range and my price range:

pioneer 12" pro series (1000rms)

RD audio Sonance 12"

eD e5.12 (Cant find anywhere to buy) (ideal enclosure is 1.5^3)

eD 16Ov.2 (My enclosure is probably too small but I found them everywhere for like $100)

Well these are the subs I have in mind as of right now. If you guys have any other suggestions I would love to hear them.

Here is a picture of what kind of enclosure I am looking at making:

That is about 2ft^2. Would it be better to make it upfiring or make it not so close to the drivers seat and fire towards it? Also, will it matter where I put the port? I will not be making the box but I wanted to know so I could kinda tell the guy. I havent talked to him yet. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

^^wow you're going to sit the box on your seat like that????

Stay away from Elememtal Designs, what did you say your budget was??

you know your car has a really big cabin??

why not make a box & figue out a way to put the sub under that seat, driving around with a box that big behind you isnt the ideal in the world.

some one can steal it or have you thought about if you got into a really bad accident it could kill you.

First off you should figure out what sub you would like to buy then get an amp to power it, personally.

Second try to find a sub that will be compatible with that enclosure you have if your using it.

I really dont have that much space under my backseat. I really wanted to go ported and I didnt figure I could fit a box under there that is ported. Here is a box that is made specifically for my truck:

http://www.subthump.com/images/gmcars/c8898s2.jpg

It only has a 5.5" mounting depth and .9ft^3 of airspace.

I didnt think this would be enough. The only thing I could do is maybe make a box like this and extend it out into the floor and then make it deeper where it is not under the seat?

It's been said already. There are seat riser kits available. Buy one, it'll give you another inch or two to work with.

or

Check this site for more prefabs: http://www.supercrewsound.com

Prefab enclosures ****, but unless you're good with your hands, you'll have a tough time with all the angles and contours underneath those back seats. Maybe you should look into a dual 12" prefab and get yourself a pair of nice shallow mount subs.

RE Audio SL 12"

JL Audio 13TW5

Polk Audio MM1240DVC

Kicker CVT122

or

Do dat ish balla style. Rip out those back seats and toss in a pair of 18"s.

Well I have used a hifonics 1606d on my 2 rd sonance 12's at 1 ohm and it didn't do good at all. It may do better with just one but with my 2 I had to boost the bass on the head unit all the way to get them loud. I would recommend an audiopipe 1500d if your on a budget. I got mine for 189 shipped on caraudiodeals.com, and a brutus usually goes for around 125-150. It does a little better than rated I hear and it pushes my sonance's with ease with the eq flat on my hu.

GM truck prior to '99 have very little space under their rear seats. Your best bet is to raise up your rear seat as mentioned. I have a Y2K Sierra Ext cab and I raised my seat up 2". The '99 years to the '07 (OBS) have a lot of room for the most part. The '07 (NBS) to 2010's lose quit a bit in the driveshaft hump.

I built a box for a friends '95 Sierra ext cab for a single Kicker XPL10c4 at .75 cf sealed. It was only for half of the back seat (underneath) drivers side. If you went all the way across you should have just enough for a decent ported 10".

If I were in your shoes, I'd go for the Pioneer over the eD. The group may not agree, but I'd make a box of similar shape to your design. Sub would be up-firing, and back by the headrest. The slot port would be S-shaped, and snakes into the foot-well, firing towards the passenger side.

Pioneer's recommended box size is 1.2 cubic feet, tuned down to 40-42 Hz-ish, but tuning lower can give you a bit more rumble. I'd do 2"x8" port, 15" long.

Since it's a relatively small air volume in your truck, and the sub is near your head... be sure to design your box not to get boomy. The port area needs to be small-ish, and you want to add some stuffing on the walls of the box. Boomy truck boxes get annoying (to me atleast).

You'd still have room for 1.5 passengers in the back... and can be easily removed for more cargo/people. Just my 2 cents.

Unless you are going for SQ a single 2ft3 ported sitting in the seat ,ain't going to do much and you probably aren't going to be very happy with it anyway , and if you fire the port and sub upward it is going to rattle the s!@t out of that thin back wall and glass, if you have to use the seat, do a single 15" with the sub and port firing forward ,with the port located up high or in between the buckets and fab brackets to bolt the enclosure to the back wall, for safty concerns, and either way tint your windows and invest in a black sheet to cover when not in use and a good alarm is always a good idea.

but I vote removing the seat if possible.

Well I really dont want to move my seat. And my windows are about as dark as the legal limit. And im not really going for sq. I want it to be loud but not sound awful. Maybe I could keep my alpine m500 (500rms) and get a kicker cvt to put under the backseat? I really wanted to go louder than that though.
