0V on speaker lines

I am having a problem with my Pioneer DEH-1700. There is no output from the speakers. I am measuring 0V across the speaker terminals when the radio is on and when it's supposed to be playing. I am certain there is power because there's approx 12V between the ground and battery and ground and accessory.

Both the front and rear speakers are measuring 0V across the terminals per my DMM in VAC mode.

Everything else appears to be working. What can I check next?

What kind of car? Are you replacing a factory deck?

There may be a factory amp in your car.

It's a Toyota Corolla. The car was not equipped with a radio, it was not standard equipment back then.

The radio worked fine until yesterday.

There are two 5" speakers, 4 ohms each, connected to the radio on the front only. The rear channels are left open.

Did you check the ohms of the speakers? Or continuity to ground? You may have a bad speaker or a wire grounding out.

How do I check continuity to ground?

With the speaker wires still connected to the stereo and the stereo turned off, I measured approx 4 ohms, less than 10% variation, for each speaker at the back of the stereo.

what pioneer , i lost channels on everyone i had ........ nothing new really, i just used the rcas/ an amp and stopped using the headunit power after that.....

I'm measuring with whatever is playing on the CD player using a DMM on Vac. I know I should only get a small voltage due to the music not being consistent, but still not 0V even if the volume it turned up to the maximum level.

I don't know how or why, but the HU suddenly started working again...Unfortunately, I already bought a Premier DEH-P390MP to replace it from eBay. GD it...

As for external amp...I'm not even going to entertain that idea. Not worth it on a 18 year old beater. Just want a working stereo - nothing fancy. Otherwise, there would be more than just two speakers in the dash. They're not even two ways, they have that silver plastic conical thing in the middle.

Revisiting this issue...I still have teh DEH-P390MP but I didn't install it. The DEH-1700 is still in the car and works fine on most days.

I think the issue is heat related because it seems to work fine as long as the temperature outside is 85 or less. If it gets really hot, then the stereo will stop working. I'm wondering if the internal amp is going into protect because it's getting too hot during those days. The radio is the highest item on the dash and I'm sure the sun shining down on the dash doesn't help at all. On the days the radio doesn't work, it usually starts working once night time rolls around.
