02 Ranger+Type R's+TCAB=???

it was a ***** to fit it. it actually came to about 8 cubes outer dimensions and it was built inside the car, not outside it and then put it. with driver and port displacement its about 7 net. i know the ports seem small but it was all i could do. they are very short so i dont expect too much difference in output over a larger port but if necessary i could always figure something out later. i though about doing six 2 inch ports 11 inches long but i wanted to save as much net volume as possible and still keep the 31 Hz.
box is way to big what car?

one 8" port is equal to four 4" ports. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
A hell of alot easier to fit too.
u right

4 4inch ports = 50.28square inches

1 8inch port= 50.27square inches.....u rite its about the same

80

God d*mn are you stupid.
The boxes aren't oversized, they are PROPERLY sized. You have to have the proper port area for the application, you can't have one 4" port for 2 12's. And in NO way does a port EVER displace that much in most normal circumstances unless the port and box are just MASSIVE.

The boxes are built the way they are because thats how they need to be built.
I think you may be the stupid one. They are not PROPERLY sized, per Alpine's recommendations. Anyone who visits their site can see this. I am not saying it is WRONG to build them this way, I like my boxes a little larger usually to be honest. You are reacting quite harshly to someone's opinion, when in fact, it is his opinion. Chill.

The recommended box and the best performing box are not always one in the same. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If everyone followed manufacturers specs for every application, we wouldn't have people setting SPL records. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Manufacturer's specs are hardly the best performing box, unless the company somehow knows a box that works the best in every application.

You make good points. Are TCAB's boxes sole basis for putting up numbers? If they are, I didn't know that...

They are very much daily driver boxes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Unless a customer wants a pure SPL fart box, most (if not all) the boxes are tuned in the 32-35 hz range. Very much a musical box.

He thought I said the port was 'huge' when in fact the sentence referred to the box.
The port is still big though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Very true! Sometimes companies say/do/write things to save their own ***. If every single newb in the universe put a type r in a 5 cube box...well, it wouldn't be pretty for the company.

They have a lot less returns/products failing in the specs they put them. It is the "safe operating" specifications.

Even so...if I had this setup in the smaller box that they "reccomend" I would not have nearly the performance...I had the same exact subs in a ported box...i belive 2 cubes each tuned to 34hz (i didn't build the box so I don't know exactly) but it was a NIGHT and DAY difference from this box. I have the same amp, truck, battery, alternator, wiring, speaker wire, impendence....EVERYTHING was the same. And just by ear, it's night and day difference.

Port is HUGE...it's kinda like the size of a bazooka tube....but inside the box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Haha, yeah I must say, I love the look of that port, wish they were more "standard" operation...but my 4 inchers will have to suffice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
