2 way or 3 way front to replace factory 3 way

I have factory 3 way doors in my 2013 rx350. I see a couple people have gone 2 way with 2.5 wide band and midwoofer instead of replacing the tweeter, 2.5 mid and midwoofer.

What would you guys recommend? Use all three speaker locations or 2 way.

2 way up front saves me from having to get a 10 channel dsp and 2 less amp channels required.

Thanks for the input

So the rx350 factory stereo has to stay in , I’m bypassing the factory pioneer amp using a pac audio module so my signal will be relatively flat and I’m using a relatively budget dsp either the zapco hb-48 blue note or the b2 audio 4-10 dsp. My other vehicles have mechless single din pioneers in them that are setup 3 way active with 13band eq’s so my ears aren’t that sophisticated. I’ll probably tune it once, set snd likely forget unless I really get a wild hair up my ass to constantly retune.

I’m just reluctant to go three way because the morel ccwr254’s that I’m looking at for the factory mid location say they play up to 19k but I’m not so confident that expecting 3k-19k out of a 2.5 is optimal compared to distributing across a midrange and a tweeter. Plus I’m looking for a quality soft dome that has no grille or housing.

2.5 wideband drivers can get up to ~20khz if they're on-axis. Off-axis, expect them to roll off at ~5khz. Take a look at CDT, they have decent 2" wideband driver. I'm not sure if that wideband is available in any of their 3 way kits.

I too would say go with the 3-way. Depending on the amplifier(s) you use you may not need a 10 channel dsp as a 8 channel might just be fine with additional planning. The amp may have the ability to bandpass for mids and midbass. Just remember... you can run more than one DSP as well. I would run the 3-way and just figure out the best way to run each channel. I ran 3 1/2's and tweeters with passive crossover while using a DSP... saved me two channels and I still ran 6.5" midbass. You have limitless options.

How many speaker locations do you have? Center channel, front doors, rear doors, and sub?

You can use a 6ch DSP for this setup. A 3-way component set only needs one input for the crossover, then it wires off to the three other speakers. So, you have one channel for each door (totaling 4ch), one channel for the center speaker, and one channel for sub. If you forego the center speaker, you'll only need a 5ch DSP. Then you can run a single 5ch amp.

I recently heard a set of PPI P.65C3 speakers, and they were pretty amazing.

Those are a nice set for the money. You have to get the tweeters aimed just right, but AMT's also have less issues with reflections.

Running active crossover, need a 2.5 for that mid range door location, going to leave a the center speaker out

Speaker magnet may be too wide to clear into the mounting bracket, tempted to buy and try and return if not
I had another version of those speakers once in my G6 that had 3-way factory speakers in the doors. The magnets can be problematic.
