Buck Box Designs - Refreshed Thread

Mine goes pretty good in my half assed box in a crew cab.
Not super punchy, hits nice and low. the response has been very smooth and surprised the handful of people who have listened to it.
Nice! How much power you giving it? Box size? If you already had a thread or answered these questions previously , my bad.

Had one and sold it before getting to hear it. Have you heard one yet?

I haven't heard one, but I know t/s parameters, and I know how people have told me how they sound. I stand by that they're my favorite Skar woofers right now. Like people know the ZVX's put in work, for example. These VXF's are the same way.

No worries, i haven't talked about it much.it's like 1.85 cubes tuned at 34 or something like that. I ended up adding some bracing that i didn't calculate for that lowered my desired volume and increased my tuning. 1700 rms power but it's on stock electrical so maybe slightly less. I'm not a huge fan of how close my port opening is internally to the sub placement. But it still plays musically down in the deep end well. I do have to turn the bass down for alternative or certain rock songs because it tries to obliterates notes that are supposed to be more subtle. Which is my facotry head units fault, It still rolls off bass as you increase volume so i have to turn my gain up slighlty to compensate. That's another story. Anywho.
i like the sub. I've owned soundqubed, alpines, FI, Kickers, insignias, kenwoods, powerbass, American Bass, JL, Etc.
I'd buy the VXF again. And already have a friend who's buying one after he heard mine.

Very nice build that takes advantage of all the available airspace there's still that secret compartment in the RAV4 that gives me an extra two cubic feet for 14.6 gross

I wouldn't say I love Skar necessarily, just when I design for a lot of different woofers, there's just some that I get to like for certain reasons. Skar is giving people what they want, and they're buying a lot of Skar, it seems. Most of the Skar subs seem to perform like people want them to. I get a lot of good feedback on most of their subs.

Haha, anyways....

So, this VXF 15 is on a SIA-3500 at 1 ohm. I saved these box files as a "high powered" box, which is because I usually design boxes for RMS power, typically. This box is tuned in the high 20's and has big port area, relative to musical design, Skar's recommendation, and what I would normally do for port area for a sub like this. I can't believe this sub hasn't blown yet, honestly. That's like legit 2x the RMS power.

These big flared ports are not just for show. Don't get me wrong, I think they look super cool, but giant flares are very useful in high power applications, or in applications where you might run into port noise. It's the exact same concept as a the flared ends on something like a PSP aeroport, but clearly it's a whole level higher of beefiness and airflow.

I'm really not a fan of aeros, when it comes down to it. They definitely have their uses, but wooden ports are so strong and make the box so much stronger, as well, and you just aren't going to get the same airflow, in most cases, by using a round or aeroport. I don't think there's many ports that can beat the airflow of a flared slot port.
